Heard today about how Trump’s dictatorial seizures of appropriated funds have denied the chance for dozens of new teachers to go out from a @calstate.bsky.social campus to serve rural students.

Trump Party leaders unwilling to stand tall and object are supporting harms to rural communities.

Conversion therapy of LGBTQ kids is psychological torture. Generations of LGBTQ people know this firsthand.

It’s why we banned it in California & why others states also have. Therapists don’t have a right to torture kids.

The Supreme Court will harm so my if it overturns these laws.

Sen. Ruben Gallego says the impacts of the shutdown pale in comparison to the calamity that would ensue if the Obamacare subsidies expire: “If we don’t get ACA tax credit extensions, over 100,000 Arizonans are going to double their premiums on their health insurance. That’s painful and permanent.”

Without immediate action from Congress to extend key funding as part of a government shutdown deal, Californians enrolled in Covered California will see their monthly health insurance bills nearly double beginning in January — and in some cases more than triple.
“Increasing out-of-pocket health care costs puts coverage out of reach for millions of Californians and others across the nation. This threatens affordability and will force many individuals and families to lose their health coverage altogether. Without federal action, the health of our communities is at risk.” Kim Johnson, CalHHS Secretary

From CDSS:
“Millions of Californians receiving benefits from State programs may be impacted beginning as early as November. We are able to fund benefits for the month of October; however, a prolonged shutdown could put CDSS programs at risk.”

What the White House has tried to do to UCLA is not just an attack on a school, it's an assault on future generations of leaders, scholars and researchers.

This is an important debate & a solid argument by @julesboykoff.bsky.social. My personal view is: athletes from all countries should be able to compete to promote peace. For the Olympics, participation of athletes from warring states has been key since antiquity. www.olympics.com/ioc/olympic-...

Even the convention center - now with a two-stage process to attempt to accommodate the Games schedule - is a project long in the works regardless of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
jasonsisney.bsky.social
At least until the convention center issue recently, projects were pretty cleanly things “that were happening anyway” in the way and timetable laid out. Neither the state nor locals have funds for projects deemed largely for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. That’s a key reason for “no new build.”

For what it's worth, I'm responding to requests by soft launching added versions of my #CABudget feeds on Instagram and Threads (@jasonsisneyca), and I am working out how to do it via TikTok too (@jasonsisneyca) despite the fact I find the latter pretty cringe.

The report seems well intentioned, but shooting for Olympic “legacies” often is an expensive, wasteful errand. Olympic and Paralympic Games are short, but huge, sporting events - good for building memories and camaraderie. Public investments are justified by what residents need the rest of the time.

The bill was introduced in by Assemblymember Matt Haney.

Haney said the legislation was needed to give the state’s legal cannabis industry a fair chance to compete against the untaxed and illegal cannabis markets."

Today CARB blasted U.S. EPA’s illegal bid to overturn the 2009 Endangerment Finding—the cornerstone of federal climate responsibility.

EPA is ignoring 15+ years of its own science & putting millions of lives at risk. When EPA falters, CA stands tall for science & clean air.

The quote reads: “Let’s just say the quiet part out loud: EPA’s proposal is a stunningly sloppy and amateurish effort to sow doubt where there is no doubt, and EPA cannot simply repeal its own standards based on a political whim. The agency owes the American people straight, honest answers why it is proposing to carelessly risk their health, lives and property.” — Chair Liane M. Randolph. We left the first rule of tariffs behind a very long time ago
justinwolfers.bsky.social
A $100k “price” for H1-B visas is like a tariff on STEM labor.

And the first rule of tariffs is clear: never tax your inputs — that just makes American firms less competitive than their foreign competitors.
