Heaven have mercy on us all—Presbyterians and Pagans alike—for we are all somehow dreadfully cracked about the head, and sadly need mending

Also, shout-out to the man next to me in the auditorium getting maximum efficiency out of the Jenrick speech by eating a quinoa salad throughout. Top marks, no notes

If you ask me to give one defining aspect of the character of Hooklanders, it would be their refusal to have their sense of awe diminished. They refuse to be disenchanted. Modernity is no barrier to their sense of encroaching otherworlds. Even in suburbia, they maintain wonder. – Dr. M. Benn

I will say that every experience I have had with Philosophy at the University of Birmingham has been inclusive and supportive, whether I have been there as a teacher, PhD student or as an ECR.

Women can't always say that... so thank-you.

Stuart Hall took Thatcherism seriously & tried to understand its affective & aspirational appeal. Trumpism operates differently, as @cnewf.bsky.social notes, but the need to offer a cultural & political counter-strategy is key. I keep thinking about Hall’s adept use of new forms of media.

Great call to arms by @cnewf.bsky.social, following the tactic of Jed Esty's "Future of Decline" by looking to Stuart Hall & the New Left, & urging us to forego "private agency within our universities" in favor of "collective agency by running them."

Long before “A Room of One’s Own,” Virginia Woolf wrote a trio of fairy tales about a woman named Violet.

This early experimental fiction, rediscovered in 2018, is now being published for the first time, showing Woolf in a startling new light.
A lost work by Virginia Woolf will be published for the first time
The author’s early fiction, written in tribute to her friend Mary Violet Dickinson, shows her in a startling new light.
