"Nowadays, Caesar is Christian. Very Christian. Intimidatingly Christian." - @matthewdtaylor.bsky.social

This is such a powerful speech. (It was delivered at a seminary, but I refuse to think of it as a "sermon.") Have a listen. Thx to @rickpidcock.bsky.social!

I was honored to preach at @candlertheology.bsky.social's chapel last week.

My sermon was "Render Unto Caesar: Preaching the Gospel in an Era of Christian Power."

There may have been some subtext.

about the martyrdom of Charlie Kirk, a chilling and clear-eyed explanation of how his legacy is guiding the growing Christian nationalist movement. Highly recommend listening!

This is an amazing, thorough article of Feucht & his mess. Agree w/ @matthewdtaylor.bsky.social’s statement. “Taylor argues that the smart play here is to refuse to play at all.”
Imagine, if no one showed up to pay attention to him or posted about it at all (other than his own of course).

Ha! That didn't make it into any of the highlight reels of The Call DC, which were just about all I managed to unearth of footage from that day.

Having observed some of these big NAR events on the National Mall, they do not live up to the quick-cut video hype.

Thanks for reading the book.

It's tempting to give Feucht a big, boisterous counterprotest to show him he's "not welcome in Seattle," but that plays into his and his allies' hands.

If there's no hubbub, no violence, no big reaction, then Sean's just another dude singing in a park, and that's the last thing he wants. 9/
matthewdtaylor.bsky.social
Feucht is especially motivated to try to stir the pot right now, b/c a crew of his former associates and volunteers have recently gone public about his abusive behavior, financial fraud, & general villainy.

They even launched a site for their whistleblower report: www.truthandfreedomstories.com 8/

I especially worry, because, at this moment, the Trump Admin is looking for fights to pick with big, blue cities.

An angry, flashy "Christian persecution" narrative in right-wing media could be the ticket for them to trigger a federal investigation or even nat'l guard deployment in Seattle. 7/
matthewdtaylor.bsky.social
Even worse, the Trump Admin signaled their support for these tactics by Dan Bongino saying the FBI would investigate such "targeted violence" against Christians.

This fits w/ Trump 2.0's efforts to weaponize claims of "anti-Christian bias" as ways of hitting liberals. 6/

FBI to probe claims of ‘targeted violence’ against religious groups after evangelicals’ protest in Seattle
A total of eight people were arrested for assault during dueling demonstrations as of 8 p.m., according to Seattle Police. No injuries were reported.

When Feucht's buddies staged a similar event in Seattle a few months ago, counterprotesters got roughed up by police.

Organizers def. were taking a page out of Feucht's playbook, & some of these same folks are involved in Feucht's rally this wknd. 5/

He was a right wing media darling before the 2024 election, but now Feucht is more dangerous because he has "friends in high places" (hint: not Jesus) in DC.

Feucht can very easily get Pam Bondi, Pete Hegseth, and maybe even Trump on the phone to air his complaints and propagandistic lies. 4/
matthewdtaylor.bsky.social
Feucht's tactics have been to stage provocative, sometimes local-ordinance-defying, worship concerts with anti-LGBTQ and other harsh messages.

When the blue, diverse cities he targets react, either by staging counterprotests or restricting the concerts, Feucht casts that as "persecution." 3/

PSA - Sean Feucht is coming to Seattle this weekend, & I think this is worth paying attn to.

Feucht is more dangerous and desperate for attention than ever, & he has more powerful friends and allies than ever.

My advice: Don't let him dominate the narrative. 1/

Stoking outrage in progressive cities is part of the game plan for evangelical preachers like Sean Feucht, whose influence has been steadily growing.

I went on this podcast about Christian worship, and I got a little spicy with my theology talk. I guess it's getting some pushback online.

That's good!
