x-posting from mastodon, since it's too true

bluesky having character limits at the protocol level pretty much instantly disqualifies it as anything I would want to switch to 😬

It’s very weird watching people become “Stans” of one social media platform or another. They don’t seem concerned with social media actually solving communications problems for society, or a particular discipline, but rather, with how much they empower their personal …

Ok. Here's what's super interesting about threads. While the algorithm isn't great (BRANDS! CELEBRITIES!) that quiets a bit once you start following a bunch of people you choose. (That isn't the interesting part. I'll post that next)

On an average day, I see a LOT more of misinfo on bluesky about the fediverse than bsky misinfo on masto. But today I have a good one.

From the users of mastodon dot art, the people who will defederate you for using full-text search (they used a hashtag, so I’ll assume they wanted me to find this):

I share most of the intellectually-honest criticisms of Mastodon that people talk about, and indeed have long been trying to help the fediverse with that. But the condescension on Bluesky about platforms that have 100x as many users, and have been around for far more years, is not a good look.

Mastodon users are so deep into the Instagram Threads drama, that they’re missing the news about bsky federation

Anyway. Who’s running a PDS? I want to try how account migration and other federation features work.

Libraries are neither outdated, nor a waste of real estate.

My creds: I used to work at Amazon, and currently work on Google Play, where I have the distinct pleasure of serving the Google Play Books team.

The person that said libraries are useless isn't bad. They just don't know what libraries do.

This motherfucker thinks libraries only house physical media for access.

It’s not like they don’t enable internet access for those who do not have it, social services for a numbered of groups, and enable participation in the democratic process.

Fuck out of here with that shitty take.
Libraries in their current form are outdated. The need for physical media is unnecessary and a waste of or real estate
