HOW to teach #picathecat that she CAN'T sit on my lap until I'm done sitting down???

The lap doesn't exist until the human is sitting??

She tries to get on my lap *as* I'm trying to sit and it's just... it's chaos. And then she's upset and I'm in a bad position because she didn't let me fix my […]

This is VERY high up on my list of things we need to do better in 2026: Find a way to use the Admin's claim they oppose antisemitism to impose a cost for the antisemitism they routinely push out.

There's literally an EO forbidding federal funding for antisemitism!
As a Jew, it’s fun watching the administration post Christian nationalist messages while also saying they are doing everything they can to curb antisemitism.
Here’s the U.S. government being officially religious in a country with no official religion.

We have an HP M283fdw laser printer/fax/scanner that has actually served us pretty well for a while. I could always print and scan from this on my Mac without apparent trouble using standard apps.

Upgrading to Mac OS Tahoe, I could still print without issues, but today I realized that scanning […]

Colorado's Senators torpedo a spending deal because they object to the coalition of greedheads, flat-earthers and Ministry of Truth types trying to kill NCAR.

Without NCAR I wouldn't be where I am today, though my career has had nothing to do with atmospheric research. I cut my teeth as a graphics programmer there, in a summer job writing scientific visualization software for them--which benefited […]

One parenting tip from me: assume your kids will do stuff behind your back, remind them that they have a stack of get out of jail free cards at home: if they get into a bad situation you want them to call you. Make sure they know they won’t get into trouble if they ask for help.

Anyone else kind of hate days off if only because it ruins the schedule?

I want days off. I need days off. But I also get so stressed out when school goes on break.

I tried to explain this to another teacher and I think they reported me to HR for being unwell.

I am on my way home to Toronto and the aurorae are absolutely phenomenal.

If you are anywhere in the northern half of the continent, get outside and look up! Or better still, put your camera on a 10 second exposure and point it up.

Aurora borealis in my neighborhood again. To my naked eye it was hard to distinguish these displays from general haze and light pollution, but the red-purple color in the first photo was strong enough that I could pick it up.
