Cat is hitting on a very real point, here. Honestly, my gut instinct is that this is part of what happens when shame is outlawed as an acceptable emotion to feel

Tech doesn't *have* shame, and its workers are forbidden from feeling it. Ergo, anything shameful cannot be tech.

But DOGE is shameful!
There actually has not been enough reflection in the tech community about DOGE

The main Norwegian news agency covered a report from the largest Norwegian telephone provider - their story contained 5 supposed direct quotes, _none_ of which were actually correct quotes from the report and one of which was attributed to a completely invented vice president for security.
NTB trakk sak med falske sitater og falsk kilde: – En veldig alvorlig feil
Fem av fem Telenor-sitater, og navnet på direktør, var oppdiktet. Feil bruk av KI, forklarer redaktør.

What the fuck are we even doing? We’re just continuously reenforcing the idea that we are unable to defend ourselves AND our Main Ally hates our guts and wouldn’t lift a finger to help us if we were on fire.

Jesus. We need to grow a fucking spine.

I have a weird rule for language on my account which I haven’t really said here on Bluesky, I believe. Basically: I only post in English (very few exceptions), but I reply in Norwegian if the post I’m replying to is in Norwegian. I try to remember to set the language right, but sometimes I forget.

I know we like to talk about the bad stuff around social media, I’ve been mindblown by how much knowledge I can attain from people around the world demonstrating their craft. Here a Shetland knitter explaining how to knit the fingers of gloves.

I've given up on pointing this out, but it is 100% true. The list of "new discoveries" about platforms that I literally filed public affidavits about in 2010 or testified on live TV about in 2012 is... really long.

We could skip a bunch of bullshit by looking at what is already public.

Listen. I’m told the cable thing is normal actually.
Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

Look. I'm not playing with you people.

During the great depression, if you were employed and had a job, you probably were not living on the streets. In 2025, many homeless people have jobs.

Depending on whose stats you use, and if you count part-time employment, between 40% and 60% have jobs.

This (youtu.be/2AvfOhtmCZY?...) is an older @acollierastro.bsky.social video I must have missed, but it is brilliant in explaining the intensity of the bullshit of the adjunct system, for students and instructors.
