I once handled a manuscript that came back from three very thorough reviewers, with only a minor revision.

Though I suspect that manuscript had been rejected post-review elsewhere, first. It was extremely polished.

I mean, they're likely getting rid of some of the termites?

I was thinking more in terms of the amount of f*cks given; nobody questions the patch clamp data!

One theory I've heard is that batteries use chemical reactions, which are temperature-dependent. As those batteries are getting near the threshold, it's the colder ambient air at night that pushes them over the edge.

That, or global conspiracy, of course.

Today was grey and rainy; the perfect time to grab a camera and go outside.

After surgeries and virus injections, I always have to wait 14 days before I can start recording.

And well, if the mice don't need me anyway...

Aah, if only I had a bit more time.. sounds like it'll be a fantastic conference!

I have thrown away sweaters for the heinous crime of being not machine washable.

Life's too short for hand washing.

Called it. My bet is an optogenetics Nobel in 2027.

The ones I'm dealing with are pretty old LEDD1B's, and it may be dependent on the power supplies we used (in fact, I go into power-supply noise in ephys setups here: www.nature.com/articles/s41...).

Fantastic drivers otherwise, can recommend, just massively frustrating to ground.
mattneuro.bsky.social
So true. My biggest recent problem are some LED drivers from @thorlabs.bsky.social. Thorlabs, of all people! They build microscopes for breakfast! How are their LED drivers noisy?! And no obvious way to ground them, either; had to ground them through the BNC cable.

Anyway, I do voltage imaging now
mattneuro.bsky.social
Uuuugh, I used to stab my vacuum line with a needle (to ground it, not some horrid voodoo ritual), never managed to get it completely noise-free.

My favorite: the cable connecting my camera picked up noise. Didn't matter if it was plugged in or not. Ended up electrically isolating the camera.

Early profs and profs alike:

What is your advice for people who are JUST starting their labs? First goals and tasks?

Don't forget to swap your handlebar around for driving on the other side!

Oooh, I bet those would go great on pizza; with some BBQ spices, of course.

Ooh yes, good one! I have seen anywhere between zero and four; luckily, most search committees do not require letters of recommendation until you're shortlisted, otherwise things would get tiresome fast for your referees.
