Just an update on this, Tannus are doing a tyre liner, so not the solid tyre that we all think about. Not cheap, but might prevent a puncture and even if you do, you can still ride on the tyre.

Here in Akureyri last night the activity was very high. Visible with the naked eye, but better through a camera.My phone camera caught it, although I should have brought a tripod. Made my wife's trip worthwhile
