Excellent idea. Surely a way boost to economic growth too. Boost to local growers and suppliers, heaps of new jobs in the regions making and moving meals. What a great investment that would be! Better value for the taxpayer too. Buy quality and it'll last a lifetime, etc.

Don't targeted funding cuts essentially undermine academic freedom?
One of their core functions is to be a critic and conscience of society. Doesn't that enable them to take a position on any issue?

The quote "When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?" is often attributed to the economist John Maynard Keynes. The current government's policies are making the problem worse, and the books today show that problem writ large. It should change its mind.
