What we're apparently going to keep learning with these school lunch stories is that a single centralised provider can't effectively serve the entire county's schools.

Maybe we should look at contracting to local providers in different areas to meet a set of defined criteria.

Like it was before.

Word of day is ‘unasinous’ (17th century): united in stupidity.

A riff on ‘unanimous’: which comes from the Latin for ‘one mind’. ‘Unasinous’ means ‘one ass’.

We work for computers now, not the other way round.

99% these toggles magically turn back on with app/iOS updates. Apple is Microsoft now.
Welp. Apple snuck something dirty in our phones last night.

Settings > Apps > (pick an app) > Siri > Learn From this App

TOGGLE OFF.

You have to go through each app. My garage app, my BANKING APPS, others had that turned on automatically. 😡

57 companies are responsible for 80% of global greenhouse gas emissions since 2016.

These companies include fossil fuel giants like Chevron, Shell, and BP, who have been raking in record profits.

The profits of Big Oil should not be more important than the future of our planet.
Just 57 companies linked to 80% of greenhouse gas emissions since 2016

The Media Council has upheld my complaint against NZME, saying Barry Soper’s article on Tory Whanau made a “serious error that cast unfounded doubt on the legitimacy of the process that led to Ms Whanau becoming mayor.” They agreed the correction both fell short and confused the matter further. 1/

Nicola Willis loves Ruth Richardson's austerity strategy. Now she has a recession to match the one deepened by the 1991 'Mother of All Budgets'. However, Willis' one-time boss, Bill English, did the exact opposite & swore off austerity from 2008-11. Luckily. thekaka.substack.com/p/austerity-...

The quote "When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?" is often attributed to the economist John Maynard Keynes. The current government's policies are making the problem worse, and the books today show that problem writ large. It should change its mind.

@royalsocietynz.bsky.social
They love "academic freedom" as a kind of authoritarian edgelord fantasy thing. Actual academic freedom, not so much.
To spell out a bit more what I read as Dean's point here:

s 267(3) requires many actors, *including the Minister* to act in accordance with the goals in s 267.

s 267(4)(a) is the very strong guaranteed of academic freedom, which includes freedom to reseach, including unpopular things.
