No that's true. But I think the specific linguistic association between anarchism and unrestrained chaos is misleading. As far as I understand anarchism
maxdavie.bsky.social
I know there are a number of problems with the ideology of anarchism, but I do think that the name a big one in terms of public understanding

It's maddening, and I speak as someone who runs an NHS service.

The rebranding of reactionary gender and biological essentialism as “heterodox and challenging ideas to which liberal students must be exposed” is one of the greatest achievements of our stupid era. Congratulations to the reactionary centrists who helped make it happen - you dupes, you utter dolts.

In case people in the UK think this vile stuff has no connection to our own gender critical hegemony:
The Heritage Foundation fund SEGM.
People associated with SEGM train and run the new NHS youth gender service.

The thing is, not just is this not true (of current Reform intenders or especially their 2024 vote), but it's actually somewhat unusual in British politics to be the most popular party and have a support base as deviant from the median voter.

every time there's political violence discourse i think about how jo cox was assassinated in broad daylight by a fascist who shouted "britain first" as he shot her, and now nine years later her party is dedicating every moment in power to placating the ideology of her murderer

A bit sad about this, honestly. You have been a reassuring guide through the madness. Guess we'll still have origin story and whatever else you're cooking up.
But thanks for it all.

Kind of extraordinary for the health secretary to stray so far outside their brief to bat for the right to express violent transphobia.
But then it's Wes, so not a big surprise.

I don't think anyone who is paying attention would argue that the UK, where SEGM are essentially dictating policy, doesn't have ban on gender affirming care.
maxdavie.bsky.social
Another excellent post on this: a reminder that the fact that the evidence for gender-affirming care is weak DOES NOT justify a ban.
And yes, what is happening at the moment in the UK is a ban on medical transition in youth by any other name.
gidmk.bsky.social
There's been a big fight over gender-affirming care after Gordon Guyatt and his team at McMaster released a statement contradicting their former funders' public policy.

I wrote about the whole thing, and what "evidence-based medicine" really means.

if we really *have* to write badly-evidenced culture-war reports about how neurodivergence and mental health conditions are overdiagnosed and getting an EHCP is too easy and it's all the parents' fault, can we at least make them shorter?
