The thing is, even if you believe it (I occasionally feel the attraction of the idea, I doubt I am alone), you should really stop up short when you come to the double whammy of “should I have gone?” and “does this apply to your own children?”.

This is doggedly pursuing knowledge, though. The knowledge of “how drunk can one person get?”, “how hungover can one person be?”, “what happens if I stay in bed for six weeks?”, stuff like that

Most of the people I met at university were not doggedly pursuing knowledge, they were doing a bare minimum of work while partying, until six weeks from the end of the third year.

I'll bite. What is the benefit we gain from politicians being able to 'thoughtfully' say in private 'blacks, British Bangladeshis, British Pakistanis, British Indians, mulattos....all the same, and clearly from the look of them not-integrated?'

Interestingly, Tom Holt - who was by far the worst of that wave of comic fantasy authors that followed - now writes pretty solid grimdark adjacent books under the name KJ Parker

Also I don’t think you can put any of those as “anti Tory” because they all have Colonel Blimps and Lady Bracknells in their work, and as their work broadens and deepens the affection for those characters grows.
