As a teacher, I find arbitrary deadlines really dumb

If it's turned it "late" but I won't be free to grade it for a while, why bother marking it late?

I set the deadline to be when the earliest point that I grade it can be, then let late assignments be a sort of "at your own risk" kind of deal

fun fact: the irs knew this was gonna happen and put the source on github like a year ago, it doesn't have 100% of the functionality since some of it was irs backend proprietary but it's been forked a bajillion times now

I got annoyed that there was no way to disable the media buttons on my TV remote that I never use but accidentally press all the time

Then I realized, I was limiting myself. There's no *SOFTWARE* way to do it >:)

So remember: you can just do things to the stuff you own

I find there is a weird, inverse sort of paradoxical and probably existential relationship between the power of computers, people that make goods, advertisers, and data collection

It's not exactly a new problem, but I've never articulated the thought to myself before

Walmart, McDonalds and Amazon are the largest employers of people who require SNAP assistance.

The CEOs earned between 18-40 million last year, 1000x their median employee income.

They took billions in profits, while their workers relied on SNAP to survive.

Wanna fix fraud and abuse?

Fix that.

It's still insane to me how clamped down the phone ecosystem is

Like you really just get android or iOS

You can mod them or add skins, but your options for adding a ton of real OS features for stuff that isn't just an app are extremely limited

AI's new business model is charging customers $20k + $500/mo to install a camera in their home so some stranger can take an hour to do a 5-minute task and feed the data to a hypothetical robot AI.

Know what can clean your entire home more quickly and for way less than $500/mo (nevermind $26k)?

It is not misconduct to unionize, and I hope that Rockstar and Take-Two face serious legal challenges for what seems to be a very clear-cut case of union-busting.
BREAKING: Yesterday Grand Theft Auto VI maker Rockstar Games fired dozens of people, all of whom were involved in union efforts. A British union calls it "blatant and ruthless" union-busting. Take-Two Interactive says it was due to misconduct.

Here's the scoop: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Union says 30 and 40 people were terminated. Rockstar Games’ parent company cites ‘gross misconduct’

Okay I'm normally a "do it yourself" kind of a guy,

But if there were a service that I could send all my PS4 controllers to that would just go in, replace the analog sticks with something more reliable, and the chargers with USBC, I would do so in a heartbeat

Very conflicted about my phone trying to push another UI update on me rn

On one hand, it's risky because it usually breaks the vibes immensely, since I have a whole theme going on
On the other hand, its a rare update that actually includes features that interest me? Like a side-by-side window mode?

Hi, CEO of I Made It Games LLC, here. We're looking for viral indie games with a cool aesthetic that have a proven gameplay loop, narrative hook, the interest of top 1% streamers, and are 80-90% complete. In exchange for 50% of your profits we'll let you put our name on the Publisher field in Steam.
