I don't mind as long as everyone at the table consents to it.

My players run 5e and barely understand the mechanics but if someone rolled up to my table with Jumpman and asked permission they'd probably all be cool with it.

I mean not for nothing we've had musicians and poets since prehistory but scientists only for the last three or four centuries and since their appearance material conditions have improved markedly for the entire human race.

This kind of gameplay is totally cromulent for single player games. It's the ethos of "losing is fun" in dwarf fortress: find a janky mechanic and have fun exploiting it. And without a computer to run the simulation, you can have a lot more interesting fun when it's a DM adjudicating the rules.
