Chinatown, one of Los Angeles’ most historic neighborhoods, turns 88 this year! I encourage Angelenos to come support local businesses and spend an afternoon or evening experiencing one of the most special communities in our city.

Taking action to restore public safety, support small businesses, and protect residents is essential to the health of our city. Chinatown’s next chapter can be one of light, vitality, and opportunity.

Tonight, I walked through Chinatown with business owners and community leaders to discuss revitalizing one of L.A.’s most culturally rich neighborhoods. Built by generations of families, Chinatown has been sustained by a strong sense of community and resilience for 88 years.

We knew back in June that Los Angeles was the testing ground for this Administration’s campaign of fear and intimidation. I am outraged by the violence committed against people by ICE agents across the country, and it absolutely needs to stop.

The senseless killing of an innocent and unarmed wife and mother by ICE agents today in Minneapolis is shocking and tragic and should never have occurred.

Tonight, City Hall is lit blue in honor of the strength and resilience of the Palisades community.

We will always stand together.

One year after the Palisades Fire, Los Angeles stands together — remembering, rebuilding, and moving forward as one city.

Los Angeles stands together.
The trauma of these fires continues to be present, and we know grief is an ongoing process.

We’re making long-term investments in our school campuses that will cut energy use, conserve water, and give students hands-on opportunities to learn about sustainability. This is part of a long-term vision to build a cleaner, healthier city for every Angeleno.

Happy New Year, Los Angeles!

As we step into 2026, I’m excited for what lies ahead. Major moments and milestones, including the FIFA World Cup, are coming to Los Angeles, alongside continued growth and opportunity across our city.

I enter the new year carrying the loss left by last year’s wildfires and remain committed to continuing the urgent work to help families recover and return home.

Congratulations to Zohran Mamdani on becoming the Mayor of New York City! I’m looking forward to working together as leaders of the two largest cities in our great nation. Your energy for this job and your love for New York City are palpable and inspiring.

Trump is backing away because there was never a legal justification for deploying troops in L.A. and cities across the country.

The Constitution still applies to presidents who wish it didn’t.

Angelenos stood together. We saw through it. The courts saw through it.

For many immigrant families, the fear of ICE enforcement actions have made it difficult for parents to leave their homes to go to work or take care of their children’s most basic needs.

This holiday storm has brought prolonged heavy rain and wind across the L.A. region.

We are deploying every available City resource to support the ongoing response, including a local emergency declaration that I signed to ensure our teams have what they need in the days ahead.
December 26, 2025 at 10:38 PM
I am deeply grateful to City employees who stepped up over the holiday to staff our emergency operations and support residents across Los Angeles. Their commitment helps keep Angelenos safe.

Please continue to stay vigilant as rain continues. Wishing you a safe holiday season.
December 26, 2025 at 3:26 AM
Throughout this holiday storm, firefighters, police officers, public works crews, traffic engineers, recreation and parks staff, and the entire City family have worked to address impacts to keep Angelenos safe – from swift water rescues to removing downed trees and coordinating safe evacuations.

This new law enacts more protections for renters, furthering our work to make Los Angeles more affordable, so that more Angelenos can not only make rent but also live full and stable lives.
