It’s wild because the Anglosphere is pretty uniformly worse at every other social policy outcome. Worse healthcare, worse infrastructure, worse poverty. The one thing we do well is turn immigrants into citizens! And we keep getting mad at our success and trying to get worse at that too.

Anglo "live & let live" integration is demonstrably more successful than French style "aggressive assimilationism" at producing integrated societies, and has been proven to do so in multiple Anglo jurisdictions in (literally) multiple hemispheres! But these people want the thing with worse outcomes!

The year you pick is 1941 because that’s right when Stalin lowers his guard and purges his officers. The month you pick is June because if you go sooner you get bogged down by all the rivers and marshes that are much deeper because of the snowmelt. They gave themselves the best possible chance.

I know this is not your point but I’m gonna be a history pedant and say that it is a misconception that Operation Barbarossa was badly timed tactically. The strategic choice to invade the USSR at any time of any year was disastrous. However, if they were gonna do it, they picked the best moment.

The former it kind of makes sense for armies to be in charge of as it's an extension of land warfare. Hence helicopters usually being with armies rather than air forces.
