I love that Matt Levine writes about AI and X-risk several times a week now because it's news several times a week now. I love living in the future

honestly policy-wise you could probably just raise taxes generally a bit and then significantly increase the deduction per dependent (and make it a refundable tax credit rather than a deduction ig)
tautologer.com
yeah I think it boils down to this, expanded transfers to parents are a de facto tax on non-parents (where parent = person raising a dependent child)
opinionhaver.bsky.social
yeah I suppose I did ask for this framing it as as controversial opinion, but in practice this would be like an expansion of the child tax credit (which is functionally a transfer from childless to parents), rather than “barren whore surcharge” line on the W2.

Something I've found is that people respond to this idea very differently depending on if you put any effort into hiding you're doing this. Broadly speaking, childless people are fine paying taxes for public schools and not fine paying a childlessness tax even though they're basically the same thing

I simply reject the latter interpretation and ignore follow policing and anyone who attempts it

frontier language models know situationally when they are being tested, what they might be being tested for, and what artifacts may be visible to their testers. when you tell them that you can’t see their chain of thought reasoning, they know you’re lying.
