I refuse to call an American concentration camp the same thing it calls itself at its attached gift shop

Maybe American journalism should search in the garbage for its self-respect and start taking the same position?

I loved those images of Indigenous leaders taking centre stage at the G7. But I would love it even more if this new government wasn’t trying to push through a Bill that would give way to much power to the federal government while stripping it from everyone else (First Nations included.)
When a Liberal MP says his own government’s handling of a bill would “make Harper blush,” it’s time to listen.

That's why we've got to talk about Bill C-5.

Because in their hurry to ram this bill through Parliament, the government is running roughshod over Indigenous and environmental concerns:

Anyone know if “protecting democracy,” human right etc. is on the agenda at the G7????

Today in Boston.

Over a million people turned out.

Even the drone couldn't get it all.

NYTimes loses the plot again by writing on fashion of soldiers uniforms at Taco’s birthday parade.

Current bedtime reading with my kiddos feels guttingly real right now. Israel is gleefully committing genocide while the world looks on. ICE agents are disappearing people. I’m safe in bed, not trained in resistance.

"I am getting very sick & tired of having to go onto news programs because journalists aren't allowed in to point out what is happening here... this is a televised slaughter. History will not judge us kindly."

I spoke today to Dr Tom Potokar, UK surgeon in Gaza:

I’m about 1/4 of the way through David Copperfield, as I wanted to see how Barbara Kingsolver played off Dickens. I loved Demon Coperhead so much… but feeling less engaged in the original. I’m seeking encouragement here, or someone to tell me it’s ok to move on…

So, here is an interesting piece to read, which happened in Newfoundland April 1,2025. Brought a bunch of thugs with him.

Conservative Party of Canada election campaign stop in a fishing village in Newfoundland turns into a spectacle of party animosity towards media coverage.

This is what freedom looks like…. Apparently
We reported on this a few days ago, but I want to point out this headline because this is where we are at.

A bill in Arkansas would ban gender affirming HAIRCUTS for transgender youth.

HAIRCUTS.

This is a straight up North Korea state sanctioned hairstyle proposed law for youth.
GOP bill could ban hairdressers from giving gender-nonconforming haircuts to minors - LGBTQ Nation
The bill would allow anyone to sue someone who affirms a young person's transition, and it specifically mentions hairstyles.

If Trump Can Deport Mahmoud Khalil, Freedom of Speech Is Dead
It’s illegal to deport people for political speech, but that’s exactly what ICE is trying to do to this Palestinian Columbia student.

I’ve been thinking about how they should be eating Chinese food on the couch, under a cozy blanket, half-watching Severance while folding tiny clothes, waiting for their baby to arrive. But instead, their family was ripped apart.
"US immigration ripped my soul from me when they handcuffed my husband and forced him into an unmarked vehicle. Instead of putting together our nursery and washing baby clothes…I am left sitting in our apartment, wondering when Mahmoud will get a chance to call me from a detention center."
NEW—Mahmoud Khalil's wife:
"I was born & raised in the Midwest. My parents came here from Syria…They believed living in the US would bring a sense of safety & stability. But here I am…weeks before I’m due to give birth to our first child…I feel more unsafe & unstable than I have in my entire life."

I’m a part time librarian and I just want to echo what I’ve seen other librarians say recently: there is a HUGE uptick in requests for social justice, climate justice, abolition, history, etc books and I just want to say nobody is giving up the fight. If anything people are fighting harder #library

Just got home from an amazing performance that was opened by a woman with imperfect English struggled through a land acknowledgement. It was clearly challenging for her, but the whole audience cheered her on. At a time like this, it felt particularly good to be in a room full of people like that.
