Honestly, unless a book is assigned in school, if it's 20+ years old, you can assume a new generation of readers is not going to get to it without some effort being made. There is a reason I've written a new book in the Old Man's War series for the 20th anniversary year of the original novel.
Are the kids reading Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. We were all required to read it in the 80s. You would have been missing a cornerstone of culture if you had not.
