Note: No Dem is running for Dare County Sheriff. All except one of the Republicans in their primary have standard local law enforcement credentials.
The MAGA wingnut I was referred to is a gentleman named Daniels. His resume is, shall we say, questionable, or as my wife likes to put it, dodgy. /2

*Using feigning ignorance to dodge difficult questions has always been in the sophistry toolkit of the American political class. It is becoming more common these days after being popularized by by its trendsetter, Speaker Johnson. /2

For example, how is it possible for the Americans who cannot locate Iran on the world map to have anything even close to a considered judgment about anything to do with Iran? /2

GOP-leaning states have a considerably lower percentage of people who hold valid U.S. passports. That part is true.

So it would be correct for the GOP to have concerns about the SAVE Act because it might affect them disproportionately.

I didn't check whether they have those concerns, so I deleted.

By allowing this dangerous, corrupt, proto-dictator to stay in office, Congress is setting the nation up for a crisis that could rival or exceed 1/6.

As I've written, Congress appears to have no Red Line when it comes to Trump's behavior.

The prospects for Congress acting are slim. Buckle up. /2

I was involved in an unclassified IC/Academia cooperative effort that used statistical models to anticipate instability.

The top indicator across multiple models was income inequality. Over the years, I heard comments from independent futurists and forecasters who came to the same conclusion.

Many people fail to grasp the level of potential impact. If all glaciers were to disappear, sea level rise alone would wipe out large areas of the US coastal areas. Florida would literally cease to exist. Millions would be displaced becoming domestic climate refugees. /2

The results will be there for all to experience. Only the causes will be hidden and debated. Those will be deliberately obscured and falsely attributed to other causes by those who helped bring the Great Dying about.
Others still will mumble about God Will or some such nonsense. /1

About 40% of the world's nations are rated "free" by Freedom House. That number is optimistic, as it still includes the USA, but I'd start talking to them. The free nations need to have a plan because Team Autocracy is moving both covertly (with influence/disinformation) and overtly. e.g Ukraine war.

Absolutely. S. Korea and Japan need to put aside their historical animosities and become an anchor of democracy in Asia as well. Thankfully, they have been moving toward closer cooperation. It's been a slow and painful process, but they are moving.

If Europe floats along diffidently, as they often seem to have preference for, democracy as a wide-spread from of national government around the globe could become functionally extinct within 100 years. /3
