“these things were very controversial at the onset, but I think Minnesota did a pretty good job on this statute,” said Kandiyohi County Sheriff Eric Tollefson ...
“Everyone’s fear was that family members and estranged spouses would run rampant and take people’s guns away, but that’s not happening.”

The Women’s Law Student Association organized such a great 5k this morning! Happy to join my students and our very tall Dean. All proceeds went to Standpoint, a wonderful org that supports survivors of domestic violence, an issue always in my ♥️

Jillian and James‘s writing is always evidence based and cuts to the heart of the issue. “What makes a difference is reducing access to the weapons that turn suicidal intent into mass casualties and building systems to intervene earlier.”

To prevent mass shootings, focus on the evidence - MinnPost
The conversation around mass shootings often collapses into “it’s the guns” versus “it’s the people.” The reality is more complicated.

I tell my students they need to fit in self-care time because our work is a marathon. OrangeTheory is my self care and I improved my 12 minute benchmark this week. I still have many bad runs because it’s running and I’m me but it’s still nice to see progress.

Months after surviving an assassination attempt, the Hoffman family issued a strong statement condemning the horrific political violence against Charlie Kirk and urging all leaders not to accept this as our reality.

Minnesota is still mourning Fletcher and Harper. And praying for Lydia and kids who laid their bodies on other kids
to protect them from bullets two weeks ago. And crying because friends Melissa and Mark Hortman are gone. There is nothing I can say about yesterday other than what Ruth said.

For the past six years I have led a state gun violence prevention organization. My response to today’s gun violence can be summed up as follows:

I want everyone to be safe from gun violence.

And I want everyone to want that for everyone else.

Hey look, here is a proposed gun regulation I think is unconstitutional and morally wrong.

This move by the Trump administration is an overtly discriminatory civil rights violation. Trans people have the same legal rights as other Americans — end of story. There are lots of good reasons to keep certain people from owning guns. Being trans isn't one of them. https://cnn.it/4niJnxG
Trump DOJ is looking at ways to ban transgender Americans from owning guns, sources say | CNN Politics
Senior Justice Department officials are weighing proposals to limit transgender people’s right to possess firearms, according to two officials familiar with the internal discussions.

James and Jillian's work is excellent and I use their swiss cheese model to teach my students about GVP. They note the "crisis demands layered solutions", necessarily including "sensible gun policies that reduce the firepower available to those intent on harm." www.startribune.com/mental-healt...

Today’s 10th Circuit opinion also uses test of whether a weapon is in common use for self-defense as the benchmark to determine if a weapon gets any Second Amendment protection, the connection I discuss in my commentary last week. www.ca10.uscourts.gov/sites/ca10/f...

Even though I do this work every day, turns out it is a lot harder to speak articulately about gun violence after a school shooting two miles from my house that took place while I was dropping my daughter off for her first day of kindergarten. Devastating day. Tomorrow back to work.

School shootings feel different when it’s in your own neighborhood. It’s okay to not be okay, fellow Minneapolis residents.

UPDATE: At least two children, ages 8 and 10, were shot and killed and at least 17 more people, including 14 children, were wounded during a back-to-school mass at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.

Schools & churches should be sanctuaries of safety for children, not where they go to die.

Well this how I think and talk about background checks. They function as a way to enforce other laws. Your Salerno stuff demonstrates the problems with their analysis on the waiting period. Also your sordid sources article of course. The 10th should read your work! 😊

NEW: 10th Cir declares that New Mexico’s 7 day waiting period for gun purchases violates the Second Amendment.

Evidence shows such laws have a marked effect on firearm suicides, saving untold lives, but no matter — Bruen means history is all that counts.

Aidan Vogelson ('25) did a tremendous job leading the briefing. It was also the product of a long project by Meghan Zula ('25), Anthony Benz ('25) and Jaxon Alston ('26) analyzing the law on what arms the 2A protects. We are thankful for great collaboration with Mille Lacs County Attorney's Office.
