The development of the inflorescence meristem and floral meristems leads to the production of floral buds, where sporogenesis and gametogenesis take place. Although micro- and mega-sporogenesis, as well as micro- and mega-gametogenesis, occur concurrently in floral buds of both species, for clarity, the pollen grain development (via microsporogenesis and microgametogenesis) is depicted within the anther of Arabidopsis and mature female gametophyte development (via megasporogenesis and megagametogenesis) is shown within the ovules of the tomato ovary. Yesterday, we visited @itqbnova.bsky.social to collect rice samples from our partners in the PrOryza project 🌾 These samples will now be analyzed at FCUP as we continue working towards developing heat-tolerant rice varieties. Grateful for this collaboration and excited about the next steps!

While the US trashes public research, the ERC proposes to double its budget. That would be huge and an excellent opportunity for scientists in the US to come to democratic 🇪🇺
