That's literally the title of the report.

Like I said, researching these things isn't a problem, the report is interesting in terms of lobbying strategy.

But going in semi-complotist hyperbole to describe a fairly standard practice is one, even if you recognise at the very end it's not illegal.

I get there's big competition in this field for media attention and funding, but making misleading claims will only push people to ignore them.

One day they'll actually uncover something serious and people will just go "meh they always overhype BS so no need to pay attention".

It's especially frustrating as most of the report is actually interesting. They absolutely did not need to turn this into a trashy piece.

In the end the message that comes across is not "look at their lobbying strategy" but "how dare they argue something different than us".

One may dislike what this coalition advocated for, but trying to present it as something fishy due to its very existence, playing on the trope that lobbying is undemocratic and akin to corruption, is fundamentally misleading the public and, ironically, a form of lobbying.

What they present as a borderline criminal cabal is actually just a plain old lobbying coalition, with very intricate strategies to achieve their objectives.

All that without breaking any laws or ethical rules. Their only "crime" was not being on the author's side.

To be fair, as someone pointed out to me on Twitter, the principle of mutual recognition of same-sex marriage was already established by the CJEU in 2018 in another case.

So if no Member States rushed into this since that case, I doubt this will happen here.

One could also wonder if this case will create a precedent for other similar situations that relate to culture wars, from transexual rights, MAR, etc.

The interesting thing will be to see whether this will have an effect where same-sex couple would go to a different EU country to get married, then come back and "force the hand" of their home country to recognise the marriage.

The limit here is that this case applies to a couple that lived in one Member States, got married there, and then went back to their home country to live.

So it's not a blanket EU-wide status, rather a mutual recognition of an administrative status.

While the CJEU is very clear that Member States are not obliged to implement same-sex mariage in their country if they do not want to, they are not allowed to "deny" and discriminate against mariages concluded in other Member States, as it would breach fundamental rights.

Tant qu'on sera incapable d'ajuster notre volonté politique à nos grands discours sur la défense européenne, on sera inaudible pour nos partenaires, quand bien même on pourrait avoir raison (et encore c'est pas dit sur tout), et l'UE restera vue comme une proie potentielle.

La dissuasion militaire c'est non seulement avoir les moyens militaires matériel mais aussi la crédibilité dans la volonté de les utiliser.

Si la Russie estime que la France regarderait ses pompes si un bout d'UE est envahi, notre armée & nos nukes pèseront autant que l'Irlande.

Depuis 15 ans les US signalent leur volonté de switcher leur attention vers le Pacifique et disent (à raison) aux européens d'assurer leur défense.

L'Europe doit se réarmer mais aussi préparer les esprits. Pas pour chercher la guerre, mais pour y être prêt et donc l’empêcher.

Penser qu'une guerre lointaine ne nous impacterait pas serait une grossière erreur.

Les économies européennes sont interconnectées et interdépendantes. Une guerre à l'Est aurait un impact direct sur nous.

Donc même le pragmatisme le plus basique nous impose d'être à la hauteur.

Il faut assumer de dire "la France versera son sang pour ses alliés".

Si on est prêts à mourir pour Mayotte à 8000 km de Paris, Riga à 1700km mérite autant notre engagement.

Sinon autant dissoudre l'UE dès maintenant car l'idée de solidarité et de destin commun sont une blague.

Nous on fait le paon avec nos capacités militaires & nos nukes, mais dès qu'on commence à parler de notre volonté réelle de défendre nos alliés là c'est le silence ou la vente à la découpe de l'Europe pour ne pas avoir à s'impliquer.

De quoi bien mettre en confiance nos alliés.

Notre indépendance/rivalité avec les US a ses avantages, mais elle nous aveugle aussi.

On aime pas les américains, mais c'est eux qui pendant des décennies ont installé des dizaines de milliers de soldats chez nos alliés pour matérialiser CONCRÈTEMENT leur solidarité militaire.

Les partenaires européens se méfient toujours de nos grands discours sur la défense européenne, car pour eux on cherche juste à remplir les carnets de commande de notre industrie et pas à garantir une défense tangible à ceux qui sont en première ligne d'appétits étrangers.
