Today I Learned that the Parliament's iconic Mickey Mouse Bar is named like that in reference and mockery to Margaret Thatcher, who once called the European Parliament a "Mickey Mouse Parliament" because of its lack of power back then.

Who said EU institutions don't have a sense of humour ?

Though it seems Trump is now TACOing on Greenland, let's salute the critical role and help provided to Europe by those who are constitutionnally supposed to be the counter-weight to the US President.

Oh wait.

Trump in Davos: "All the United States is asking for is a place called Greenland”

Quick, someone gets us an uninhabited island somewhere in the middle of the ocean, call it Greenland and wrap it in a nice bow as a present to Trump.

The first test on the Mercosur deal starts in the Parliament, with MEPs deciding to send it to the CJEU or not.

It will be on a knife-edge, the geopolitical context adding extra pressure.

We'll see if MEPs can walk the talk of EU as a geostrategic actor or if national politics is all that matters.
Undecided lawmakers in the European Parliament will make or break a deal to create the world’s largest free trade area, according to a POLITICO analysis of voting intentions.

In a bid to make their agressivity useful - for once - the Commission sends farmer protesters and their tractors to Greenland to face-off a potential US invasion.

"We told them we'd cancel the Mercosur deal if they beat the US army. Two birds, one stone".

La motion de censure de Bardella contre la Commission européenne en raison de la signature de l'accord UE-Mercosur est tellement inutile que même Bardella n'a pas jugé utile de venir au débat sur sa propre motion 🤡
European trade commissioner Maroš Šefčovič faced an almost empty European Parliament today to defend the European Commission’s signing of the Mercosur trade deal.
Von der Leyen no-confidence debate takes place in near-empty chamber
Even Jordan Bardella, who spearheaded the charge against the EU executive, failed to show up.

If Members States had balls they would put in the balance the US bases in Europe, which are essential for all US operations in Africa & the Middle East (impacting priorities like Israel & Iran).

But I doubt they will because of the need to deter Russia & hopes of salvaging somehow the relationship.
For the past year, Europeans have grudgingly endured the pains of Trump's foreign policy for the sake of guaranteeing America's engagement in Ukraine.

Now the White House presents Europeans with an impossible choice: give up Greenland or give up Ukraine.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is now making an explicit link between the US desire to annex Greenland and the continuation of US support for Ukraine.

"What would happen in Ukraine if the US pulled its support out? The whole thing would collapse," Bessent told Meet The Press.

The anti-coercion instrument is a negotiation tool, the gun you put on the table to show you mean business.

Trump using tariffs to force the EU to give away territory is a textbook example of what ACI was built for.

Big Tech must be nervous as they know they'd be first in any EU retaliations.

We're all getting nervous about Greenland, but part of the blame should be put on Poland.

They could easily announce the deployment of Winged Hussards and that'd be the end of it.

A poll in the US shows that Republican voters are divided on Greenland.

Many are keen on the idea of acquiring the island but opposed to do it by force.

So it's unclear whether Trump has a viable case domestically to sell a take-over of Greenland, particularly ahead of hard midterm elections.
