Bob you’re making the correct distinction between FY26 approps (votes happening between now and Oct), and this budget reconciliation bill, which is a different sort of beast. And agreed the approps fight is incredibly urgent to save science funding.

Fishing is really dangerous and these safety trainings save lives, but we’re losing them due to firings and cuts. We may also lose monitoring from buoys and systems that give fishermen critical safety info … more people are going to die trying to bring us food. www.reuters.com/world/us/tru...

Unfortunately, federally funded climate adaptation science and services are being cut well ahead of the FY26 budget.

We've been doing our best to speak up for what would be lost if the Climate Adaptation Science Centers are eliminated.

“I think it’s vastly too long. I cannot stress that enough”

A lot of folks have the percerption that fishermen only ever demand more, but they are often important voices for conservation. They know hammering a stock is bad for fish and their future.

'Not good for the fishery': Destin charter captains say 107-day red snapper season is too long
Although 107 days to catch red snapper may sound good for business, the charter boat captains say it's bad news for the fishery.

Just yesterday, hundreds more staff left @noaa.gov. This perspective from an Alaskan lays out the harms from efforts to dismantle the agency and strip protections for our fisheries.
We must prioritize policies that support the health of our fisheries and local economies.

The wheels are coming off at NOAA Fisheries, and we're already seeing disruptions for fishing communities.

We've been tracking regulatory delays, and what we are seeing is not normal - these delays did not happen in the first Trump admin.

Here’s my statement on the EO from yesterday. “Deregulating” our fisheries very dangerous for fish and fishing communities, and there’s no way to address the other challenges facing our fisheries while NOAA is being dismantled.
oceanconservancy.org
The administration's latest Executive Order would weaken, not strengthen, our fishing industry by increasing the risk that overfishing drives our fish stocks into decline, effectively taking healthy U.S. seafood off the menu.

This paints a clear picture of both the toll that NOAA cuts are having on individuals and also what is at stake for our fisheries and coastal communities. I know some of these people, and they care so much about the ocean and the people who rely on it. Devastating. www.pbs.org/newshour/pol...

NOAA keeps fisheries healthy + abundant to sustain fishing that fuels coastal economies. As climate impacts push fisheries to their brink, NOAA cuts are threatening our ability to rebound fish populations in the PNW and across the country.

Important stories here about how regulatory delays, staff reductions and funding uncertainty are disrupting fishing communities.

MAFAC was special because it was a forum where fishermen, seafood processors, conservationists, aquaculture experts, scientists, and more would sit down and work together to solve tough problems facing marine resource mgmt. We built recommendations together with increased respect and understanding.

I am so grateful to the NOAA staff who worked every day to build sustainable fisheries. Their services and programs support jobs, business, trade, coastal communities, and food security. NOAA also supports ocean science, habitat restoration, protection of vulnerable species and places, and more

We haven’t recieved any formal emails letting us know.

It was an honor to get to serve with people from a wide range of experiences and expertise to offer consensus recommendations on how to make sure marine resources could support present day uses while conserving them for future generations.
