Actually, one more point.

Driving up to Snoqualmie Pass in the snow is a privilege. Don't have snow tires? Or snow chains? Or a 4WD? Or a car at all? Then you're SOL. A bus levels the playing field and opens the snow to everyone. Let's get it done, Metro.

The thing with batteries vs no batteries is that if your system is big enough, then you're generating excess power during the day, which you're selling to the utility (typically at prime retail rate) and using grid power at night and buying energy for a time slot that's less than what you sold for.
