As long as you’re not trying to vote for a Republican, you can vote for whoever you want in California, if you are registered no party preference. Republicans (being the cowards they are) don’t like this, so they restrict their primaries.

People that say this scare the hell out of me. I do things I don’t want to do all the time, out of necessity. Do you not think about things before you do them?

I think the point was that they didn’t understand why we, the rest of the country, allowed the fascists to get away with this. (selfishness and cowardice being two of the main reasons)

Un-fucking-acceptable

Citizen’s United will still be a problem though….

My only problem with this argument is that it relies on a slippery slope fallacy. I agree it’s a concern, but not enough to not do it. Bonus - if UBI is enough to live on, we could get more working-class people running for office, since they could afford to not work while they run.
December 5, 2025 at 3:57 PM
The concept of UBI existed long before Nixon, but yes I see what you’re saying.

I’d be shocked if there wasn’t a Finding Nemo porn parody. Probably something like Grinding Nemo, or similar.

Not if people skip season one until hearing what other people think about it instead of watching on their own. Studios need eyeballs on their shows (and early) to help make the decision to pick up a new season.

I don’t agree with this line of thinking, but it’s still how they do it.

100%

Also (Republican) politicians are already trying to cut SNAP, Medicare, Social Security, etc., even without any form of UBI. I agree that we need guarantees of the social safety net to keep those much-needed programs. We could potentially ditch SS if UBI existed and was high enough, I guess, maybe.

Interesting, thanks. When you say “it” was developed under Nixon, do you mean UBI? Or are you referring to the “negative income tax” Family Assistance Plan (which has caveats, and so isn’t universal)? The FAP did have intention along the lines of what you’re suggesting, but it was not true UBI.

~36, I average about three books a month, including audio books. I’m under par for this year (27, but likely to make it to 30), because the first book of the year that I read was Sanderson’s Wind & Truth, and it took me ages.

How so?

It’s one of my (unintentional) vocal stims, I’m not sure I will ever escape it.

Pretty much, yeah 🎯. I think for a long time my autism and ADHD covered for each other, until they didn’t. Most doctors still just think I have an anxiety disorder (which I also have), but they have never actually run me through a formal assessment (for autism, I got the ADHD diagnosis in October)

That’s what happened (and is continuing to happen) with me. Welcome to the club, I guess?

Autism is not the BEHAVIOR of wearing the same clothes every day (even though that's reflected in another one of the main diagnostic criteria).

Autism is the PROCESSING difference that causes many autistic people to respond in that way.

As with all things he says, the correct response is “quiet, piggy!”

Two out of three ain’t bad. I learned to juggle before I had money, maybe someday I’ll be hot.
