Overheard at the #Rockville dog adoption event:

I'm sitting outside of a Starbucks, waiting to meet Joe Bevel and my friend Justin for breakfast, and this woman sitting near me, in a group, has been going on at full volume about sperm donors and blood oaths?

I've started White Nights and it's...fine? We learn one character was so buckwild that she had to be pinned by her skirt to her grannie's skirt. So it shouldn't surprise anyone that she is extraordinarily inept at making healthy choices.

One of my favorite anecdotes about Isabella and Ferdinand is this:

In 1478, Izzie & Ferd sd to the pope, "We would like an Inquisition, please. We think we understand how they work, they sound super fun, and we're bored." Sixtus, w/his own complicated moral compass, & a need for money, sd, "Sure."

My heart has been stolen by a new Varvara. (Stolen, but without replacing the OG Varvara, Varvara Petrovna from Devils.)

From The Idiot: Ganya's sister, Varya, says this about a woman Aglaya:

"She's grown up to be a hulking girl."

The way I applauded. It was her triumph.

(I'm about 200 pages from the end of The Idiot by #Dostoevsky. This is the Myers translation from Oxford University Press.)

Dostoevsky on eating babies:

"In the second place, an infant is not at all nutritious, in my personal opinion, rather over-sweet and sickly, so that it leaves behind the gripes of conscience without satisfying the appetite." (The Idiot, Myers translation)

Me, aloud, in a roomful of cats:

"I don't think I've ever seen so many cute boys together in one place. Guess I have to kiss all these cute boys."

When I was real sad once I bought a Wiccan amount of crystals and prisms and I still get real sad sometimes, but I also get this effect when I'm reading in bed in the afternoon.

I'm at the part in Devils by #Dostoevsky where the holy fool is giving away an intense amount of sugar to this woman who keeps almost getting murdered by her kids. I love this book so much I can't.

Official ranking of the Major Novels so far:

2. Brothers K
3. Crime & Punishment

At a speech and debate tournament, I remember a young woman performing a monologue from the Robinson Jeffers translation of "Medea" and I gay-gasped at the line "because I loathed you more than I loved them."

I cannot overemphasize how very much in love with Varvara Petrovna I am. I'm also absolutely certain she would be invited to all of Anna Scherer's parties.

I have wanted nothing more in my whole life than to see my dear friend, Varvara Petrovna, come to triumph.

I don't know if you remember your first time, in The House of Mirth, where Bertha Dorset lets Lily Bart know, very publicly, in Monte Carlo of all places, that she's not going to be staying on the Dorset's yacht any longer.

That quiz about which Golden Girl are you, but it's which #Karamazov brother, and I'd like to say I'm Ivan (could manipulate a simpleton to murder), but I'm really Fyodor Pavlovich (easily murdered by a simpleton) (yes I know he's not a Karamazov brother PER SE)

Hey, do you have the exact same Epson printer that I have? Because I will fill the ink for you if you provide the ink.

(We deal with the ASRM we have been dealt, and mine is "soothed by nursing a printer"?)
