I've started going back through my archives and came across this one I had forgotten I'd taken. It's definitely not the kind of thing I shoot now, but I loved the sense of experimentation.

I'm not going to blow own trumpet or anything, but this image gave me a 'highly commended' in LPOTY a few years ago. It's the only time I've entered, and only did it so I could say I had. Sometimes you just have to follow your gut.

I took this image around 6 or 7 years ago, as part of my first long-form project 'The Downs'. I was shooting the same location over all season, and the first thing I learned, is that the low-hanging fruit in a project goes pretty darned quickly.

Woodland, for me, is an altogether different world when the fog rolls in. It's deeps and mysterious and enchanting. I see the same place through different eyes. Like looking at a landscape for the first time.

I still remember taking this photo, notably for the weather that we were facing when we arrived. It was New Year’s Day 2022 and, by the time we arrived, was absolutely throwing it down. But once you're wet you're wet.

I know I've shot and posted this scene 100s of times in the past, but I just can't get over it. You could be forgiven for thinking that all I do is wait for foggy weather, then head up onto the hill. But I just love this view so much.

This is a black and white image of the famous 'Gold Hill' in Shaftesbury, Dorset. It is a steep, cobbled hill, lined with cottages on the left, and a strong defensive wall on the right. Alongside the wall there is a small, black railing. Fog hangs heavy throughout the scene, masking out any details in the distance. It is atmospheric and holds a 'classic' view about it.

Over the course of my 20+ years shooting, I would say that there are, maybe, 10 that I think are really good images - and I don’t use that term lightly.

This is a black and white taken in a street. The scene in ambiguous. There are 3 main characters, all dressed fully in white gowns and hoods. There are eye holes cut out of the hoods, so that the people can see. To their ankles are tied lengths of heavy chains. One person is looking directly ahead. One person is looking to the camera, and one person is looking up and to the right. The scene is unnerving, and poses questions to the casual viewer.

I can still remember this day. It was cold, silent and utterly beautiful. This is not a location I had set out for. I was visiting a woodland on the other side of the road and yet, I found this new discovery.

Dark and brooding woodlands are, strangely, my happy place. I love them. The creaking of the trunks, the wind whispering it's secrets amongst the leaves. Haunting, and lovely.

One of my happy places in life is Dartmoor. There’s just something about the stillness, which is intoxicating and addictive. There is nothing to be heard, apart from the wind blowing across the landscape, and the birdsong overhead.

Gold Hill is well known after a 1970s television advert for bread, directed by Ridley Scott. I’ve shot it countless times. What’s sad to me, is that people stop there and don't venture to the right with a minute's walk.

Jubilee Fire Beacon. - Wiltshire
This is a black and white image of a fire beacon, sitting on top of a hill in the Wiltshire countryside. It is surrounded by rocks at the base, to keep it stable, and you can see countryside all around. There are brooding clouds above, giving an altogether cold feeling.

This is a black and white image of a very foggy scene. In the image you can see a church to the right, with a road to the left, and some other small buildings. The fog is heavy, so seeing anything past these is difficult.
