Los Angeles
Table rapping came about shortly after the telegraph appeared. A lot of spiritualism is adjacent to the latest technology. This is just the new version of asking a medium to talk to her through the ethers, but somehow even worse.

The one naturalization ceremony I’ve been lucky enough to attend was one of the most moving experiences of my life. A room full of people from all over the world who worked so hard and sacrificed so much for years to be part of this country. It was humbling to be there. Weaponizing it is a disgrace.

For reasons known only to my subconscious, I’ve abruptly decided it’s a good time for a rewatch of the 2015 Amazon show Patriot. Incredibly stacked supporting cast, dark, funny, and sad. A show too strange and beautiful for this cruel world of ours. Maybe people just don’t appreciate piping anymore.

Sure, everyone loves The Ghost of Christmas Present and his happy go lucky attitude, but when I wear nothing but a loosely tied robe to Trish’s office Christmas party I’m “being incredibly inappropriate” and “embarrassing me in front of my coworkers.” Hypocrites

The thing about events like the World Cup Draw or the NFL draft is you don’t have to watch them to find out what happened! Unless you’re doing it as part of your job, you miss nothing by looking it up on a website instead!

Just got a medical bill cut by 60%! I’m very excited and happy but also hate that you have to haggle healthcare like you’re buying a used car.

Always appreciate this monthly list, for TCM pre-codes, but today it made me realize there aren’t really any Christmas pre-codes. It’s a tragedy we don’t have Joan Blondell and/or Glenda Farrell getting into hi jinx for Xmas cash or something. Feels like a real missed opportunity.

The Beatles’ Rubber Soul was released 60 years ago today. What makes that interesting is that Help! came out less than 4 months prior. Wild how fast they worked while evolving just as quickly. It would take them a whole 7 months to come out with Revolver the next August.

During Covid I got into genealogy, I found a puritan minister famous for an anti-beastiality sermon, a 70 year old who spent 2 years in jail for killing livestock and a ggg grandpa who died in a drunken brawl over a jug of whiskey. The idea American culture is inherently superior is a racist joke.
Fox News' Will Cain: "I’m sure there are very honorable law-abiding upstanding citizens and contributors from the Somali community here in the United States, BUT..."

He goes on to say "we aren’t going to pretend here that all cultures are of equal value or the same."

Yohannes + Macario = a problem.
December 2, 2025 at 12:32 AM
Macario doing crazy things on the pitch always makes me happy. She and Yohannes play so well together, I genuinely feel sorry for opposing defenses.
A lot of ink’s been spilled on “what’s wrong with the USWNT?” over the past year or so and I think a lot of it boils down to Cat Macario was injured. Great to see her back and scoring today. She’s special

It’s cheating but the best answer is Bess Flowers, a background actress who was in hundreds of movies, including dozens of the best films of all time. For decades she seems to have been in everything. Vertigo, The Big Sleep, The Lady Eve, Singing In The Rain and it keeps going

After my pointless attempt to delay it, we’ve started marathoning Christmas movies. Started with It Happened On Fifth Avenue. It’s one of Trish’s favorites mostly because a character Mike spends the movie getting scolded by everyone else.

Feel like I have to revisit this and admit that yesterday I was in fact reading The Master and Margarita by Bulgakov on the plane. My ebook hold came through, so still not an impulse buy. Also finished Lapvona, by Ottessa Moshfegh. Trying to decide what I make of it’s ending.
This Hudson News has a surprisingly great book selection, but I’m real curious who is at the airport and thinks, “yes, now is the time for the unabridged Les Misérables.” A great book but a terrible impulse purchase

Back home, tired but grateful for the past week and the time we got to spend with family. Also super grateful that it turns out we were one of the last flights out of Chicago before they did a total ground stop due to the blizzard.
