Trying to think of other specific villains in Bruce songs and failing. There’s the government or a shadowy “they” who blew up the chicken man or shut down the factory, but even his killers are sympathetic antiheroes, desperate men who make bad decisions.
I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

Just saw a movie take from someone I otherwise respect and listen to on here that was so bad I’m now doubting everything I thought I knew about them. Media literacy on life support.
Art is subjective but you can still be flat out wrong.

As a literal lifelong fan of Glass’s work, this pleases me. I always found this hypnotizing as a little kid.

We picked a hell of a time to finally watch One Battle After Another. Still marinating but what a great ensemble cast. More movies should have Regina Hall in them. Going to be thinking about The Christmas Adventurers Club for a long time.

Your song of the day - IT ISN’T NICE by Barbara Dane and the Chamber Brothers from 1966. It’s a good refutation to the “don’t take the bait” crowd

This line really stood out..

When we deal with men of ice
You can’t deal in ways so nice
But if that’s freedom’s price
We don’t mind
It Isn't Nice

The way Trump burned through Secretaries and staff during his first term makes it surprising this stuff hasn’t happened much so far his second time around. It’s not like this group is more competent or anything, though they probably do more groveling.
so bari definitely got the heads up that noem is being shitcanned, right?

Thinking today about how we maintain our humanity in the face of all this. I don’t mean “take the high road” but how to avoid becoming like them. And this isn’t strategy or tactics, but for our own sakes.
Two women trained as first responders were abducted by three ICE agents. One of the agents starts seizing. The other two don’t know what to do. The women jump into action and save the agent’s life, only to be re-handcuffed and processed.

Detained by ICE, two women became first responders during agent’s seizure
The women say they guided agents through the emergency, later raising concerns about medical protocols, weapons safety and accountability.

Laughing to keep from crying as I think of all the 90s right wing conspiracy fantasies and Jade Helm and all that shit. Turns out all the Dale Gribbles were right, they just didn’t know they’d be cheering for the feds when it finally happened.

Most despots use sports to show how they’re not so bad, e.g. Putin hosting the ‘18 World Cup. But I think Trump wants to use this to show off how no one can stop him. I fear for fans and players. Will he even let Haiti and Iran in? Boycott now, it’s the only choice.

The More The Merrier is on TCM and I’m reupping my theory that Harrison Ford was/is a big Joel McCrea fan. They both like to underplay a scene and act grumpy with the girl for making him fall in love with her.

Still haven’t seen enough 2025 movies to have deep Oscars thoughts beyond the fact that I really hope Miles Caton and Buddy Guy play together on stage. I like that Sinner gave their character that coda. And everyone should listen to more Buddy Guy.

Don't it feel like something from a dream?
Yeah, I've never known nothing quite like this
Don't it feel like tonight might never be again?🎵

My favorite Abraham Lincoln speech is probably his 1838 Lyceum Address where he argued the only threat to the US was not any foreign army but a Napoleonic tyrant who would take advantage of our disregarding the rule of law for too long.

Anyone else think about how many movies they’d grab out of the Criterion Closet? I think I’d go with 5, not too many but you gotta take advantage. Then just as I’m wrapping up, I glance over and “oh I didn’t know you had this!” and grab one or two more. Cause…
