The little stems that stand above the main body of the moss are called sporophytes and produce spores, not seeds. The calyptra is the structure at the top that protects the developing spores and when mature becomes a capsule containing the spores. Naming things makes biologists feel powerful!

We have a long history of shrugging at our national cancers and glossing them over in the name of preserving stability. We'll never learn that surgery to remove the cancer is essential to a cure.
