Passion-dense teams, led by artists, programmers and designers, doing hands-on work with everyone else. This is the future but also the past, the best games of all time were made this way.
As team sizes and budgets exploded, the perceived quality of the games has imploded.

Imagine Fortnite silently nuget package installing the entire unity engine. I don't understand this concept at all. Especially from a technical standpoint.

Spent all day retargeting animations. My character's fingers are fixed but my real life fingers are broken.

Jira is great for bugs and terrible for tasks. Tasks end up being too broad to be useful or too specific to be accurate. Total waste of overhead.
Here's one for all the game devs out there www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...

Caught Shin Gojira on the big screen, what an experience. It's the story about a generational passing of the torch, while the production itself was a true homage, fusing traditional techniques with a touch of modern tech. Beautiful 💪🏻

I'm assuming by "new mechanics" he means a new control paradigm.

3D movement, aiming and cameras have improved a lot over the last 30 years so unless you're inventing a new genre, is it really worth asking your players to learn a whole new scheme?

I have been a Death Stranding fan since day one but I can't stand the fact that the pause menu is tied to character animation. I get that the controls are awkward and clumsy on purpose but the pause menu is a step too far. Let me pause instantly at any time.

Any other studios offering 6 or 7 figure bonuses? Asking for a friend.
BREAKING: Krafton has delayed the highly anticipated game Subnautica 2 to 2026, potentially costing the development team a $250 million bonus.

The studio's leadership had wanted to release the game this year but were ousted by Krafton last week.

A wild story: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Sony is a publicly traded company so they aren't making games for players to enjoy, they're making games for shareholders to invest. (I also hate this)
I was catching up on the Marathon delay news, and this quote by Herman Hulst perfectly sums up why these games aren't for me anymore.

Every single time all they talk about is analytics, test groups, engagement and research data. The word "Fun" is never used in any of those interviews.

I'll tell you this: after the success of Expedition 33, the most talented AAA devs are ready to quit the instant investors come back to the indies. AAA publishers could let us cook _tomorrow_ but they won't.

I love The Matrix. The machines are the saltiest game devs of all time. A few players unsubscribe and they wipe the whole server.

This trailer was incredible. Didn't their director say, one year ago, that he finally had an 'idea' for RE9?!? That would be an insanely fast dev cycle.

When they did the rewind transition at the end of the trailer, I thought it was a bait-and-switch into MVC4, that would have been dope.

Western game publishers only know how to buy successful teams. Once they're bought, a countdown starts until the studio is shut down to make room for their next acquisition. They do not create successful teams. They do not rehabilitate the studios they own.

An interesting fact about Xenoblade Chronicles X is that there's not a single moving object in the game that has collision. Only static world geometry can block movement.

Not even the attacks use collision or trace queries, it's all distance + cos angle for front/side/back detection.

Why the heck did they get rid of strafe jumping?? Absolute blasphemy.

How to get rich in the games industry:

1. Found studio based on trendy industry buzzwords
2. Attract investors
3. Sell to major publisher
4. Quit
5. Repeat
