My mother hung me on a hook once. Once.
Found some of my old writing. Do not recommend.

No matter what religion you have
No matter what part of the world you come from to here
This piece of dirt under our feet
Doesn't belong to just one person
The person with the most lawyers doesn't own all of it
It belongs to everybody

The internet is really useful for self-diagnosis. Like just now I thought I was having a mental break but then came here to learn I wasn’t hallucinating the NYT Spelling Bee completely resetting to a new set of letters mid-morning.

One of the little things I miss about living in DC is hearing the go go beat everywhere. I was lucky enough to catch Chuck Brown a couple of times and I’m so glad his legacy continues to grow. Also, I want that shirt!

Watched “The American Friend” last night and “The Brutalist” today. What should I watch tomorrow to keep this bleak “Americans using and degrading Europeans” run going? 📽️

With today’s high of -21°C (-6°F), this seems like a good day to mention one of my favourite words:

Apricity (n.): the warmth of the Sun in winter.

Here’s Logan, enjoying some.

First it was a poppy seed bagel covered in tiny ticks and now it’s a bat that looks like a doughnut.
When not impersonating a jelly donut, the Eastern red bat controls insect pest populations like gypsy moths, cutworms, coneworms, and tent caterpillars.

Therefore: do not eat the crunchy, fuzzy, squeaky donut.

That’s right, this outbreak is older than your fourth grader.

WGS has utterly transformed our ability to solve these kinds of outbreaks caused by dispersed, repeated contamination.
A listeria outbreak that sickened at least 26 people in 11 states since 2014 has been linked to queso fresco and cotija cheese made by Rizo-López Foods, a California-based food supplier, officials said. The company recalled its dairy products this week.

I find myself suddenly, randomly, and painfully nostalgic about See/Hear, the rad zine/book store in the East Village that I loved to visit in the 90s and very early 00s whenever I made my way to the city. Made a mark on me, that place.
Back to See/Hear
It's been closed now for a decade, but since it's been gone, it seems almost inconceivable that such a place even ever existed, ... much like the neighborhood it once called home. See/Hear was an inde...

I’m apparently a Millennial at work:

45% Millennial
35% Gen Z
20% Gen X
0% Boomer

As a late Gen Xer I don’t know if I should be embarrassed in a how-do-you-do-fellow-kids kind of way or happy that I’m capable of change. Probably both.
Do you talk more like a millennial or a boomer at work? Take this quiz to find out.
What your communication habits at work say about you and how that might differ from your boss and colleagues.

There’s also a three minute video with Grady Hendrix waxing poetic about it in an open-collared polyester shirt and furry tiger-print blazer. Glorious!

I could not be less surprised by this. I am a data point. I've watched so many (and I mean TOO MANY) of my women colleagues experience the same. Women networks in academia are so fragile because there's never a sense of security or permanence. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
