Yes - That's definitely the case too!

Especially towards the top end of schooling it’s also a function of having to prioritise things like exam technique over interesting content etc. Plus looming exams suck enjoyment out.

It’s *completely* inevitable I’d say. Even the things I’m most passionate about in the whole world bore me occasionally! 😂 That’s an essential life lesson

Loved joining @emmaturner75.bsky.social and @teacherhead.bsky.social for a chat on @mindthegappodcast.bsky.social this week. Out soon.

I've got a new addition to my profile bio out of it...!

My school is oversubscribed and packed to the gills, to the point of being almost unsafe at times… and yet we’re still having crisis meetings about finances, in dilapidated classrooms.

The whole school funding system is broken

This term's CEN (Centre for Educational Neuroscience) seminars look great (as usual).

4-5 every Thursday. Highly recommended for any teachers interested in research

“wisdom which will encourage you to think more deeply about learning, rather than just creating ‘lessons’.”

Such lovely recent feedback for www.amazon.co.uk/How-Teach-Ps...

This was exactly what @paulclinepsy.bsky.social and I were hoping to achieve.

Session 3: @paulclinepsy.bsky.social and @mikehobbiss.bsky.social on developing independent learners (hint - independence starts with scaffolding). Lots of actionable strategies for helping students actually *do* the things they kinda know will be helpful.

Another brilliant day at #rED25
Lots to think about as always, and wonderful to reconnect with some lovely people.

A massive thank you to those who came to see @mikehobbiss.bsky.social and I talk

That self-efficacy is undoubtedly a feature to aim for. I guess the question (which that project is trying to quantify) is whether that is the main causal mechanism to success, or just correlated with it.

Thanks so much to @hgaldinoshea.bsky.social @tombennett71.bsky.social and all the organisers at the host school as ever. Special shout out to @thebandb.bsky.social ‘s son who was an absolutely adorable tour guide

Great day at #rED25 and delighted to present my first session after many years of lurking in the audience! Some excellent new ideas for 6th form teaching from a session on the research behind independent learning from @paulclinepsy.bsky.social and @mikehobbiss.bsky.social
mikehobbiss.bsky.social
I wouldn’t draw such an absolute conclusion. I think they exist, but that the demarcations between them are fuzzy, their effects are not completely consistent, and the exact causal features remain unclear!

@joejt.bsky.social at #REd25 talking about his own master’s research project into displays and classroom attention.
mikehobbiss.bsky.social
The model did control for students’ individual performance in other subjects, so I guess this should be (at least to some extent) accounted for.
mikehobbiss.bsky.social
@profcoe.bsky.social and Raj Chande at #REd25 There are a *small* number of teachers who we can currently say are statistically (with 95% confidence) better or worse than average for student results… but even the ‘best’ teachers have individual classes who have negative progress, and vice versa!

Looking forward to another great day at rED#25 on Saturday - session timetable, as ever, making it hard to choose!
If you'd like to hear how @mikehobbiss.bsky.social and I have tried to taken an evidence-informed approach to developing independent learners, come and see us in M20 for session 3!
