“.. How can anyone in Congress — Democrats or Republicans — make a budget ‘deal’ with this administration if we now know the President is going to ignore implementing any part of the ‘deal’ he wants?”

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

Federal Agents Storm South Shore Building, Detaining Families and Children
Families were woken by flashbangs and helicopters as hundreds of federal agents raided their homes. Days later, neighbors are still searching for the missing.

Academic ENT is highly specialized with distinct personalities. Too bad they couldn't find any head and neck surgeons.

I'm 1/2 tempted to write a LTTE and ask the authors to account for their carbon emissions during the writing of the article.

Some final pieces of advice for this very long thread:

1. Deductibles come in two kinds: individual and family. If your plan has both, and most do, whichever you hit first counts. However, high deductible health plans *only* have a family deductible if you have 2+ members. Double check.

This car would absolutely rock in California. Get like 4.8mi/kwh all year, which makes nearly everything outside of a lucid drool.

This is really good example of a fundamental bias in our understanding of how the world actually works.

Nice chart from @ourworldindata.org showing the contrast between what Americans die of (heart disease and cancer) v what the US media reports on (homicide and terrorism). This naturally leads to it being trickier to build a fact based world view

Note: Based on the share of causes of death in the US and the share of mentions for each of the causes in the New York Times, the Washington Post and Fox News. All values are normalized to 100%, so the shares are relative to all deaths caused by the 12 most common causes + drug overdoses, homicides and terrorism. These causes account for more than 75% of deaths in the US.
A "media mention" is a published article in one of the outlets which mentions the cause (e,g. "influenza) or related keywords (e.g. "fu") least twice.
