I watched a beautiful woodpecker for a little while while I let my sweet dog sniff around in the snow. My favorite plant (pictured) caught my eye— I never noticed that gorgeous scallop pattern in its leaves before.

Even as I say that, I’m keenly aware that due to my privileged status in this nation, emotional fatigue is probably the worst of it for me, but I also don’t want to totally dismiss that weight.

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.
