I guess since it won, here's the kyanite one college roommate got me which totally ruined the mediocre kyanite we saw in Spain ⚒️ #mincup25

A hunk of kyanite with intersecting crystals in the shape of an L and is deep blue where the crystals are planes. The longer side the crystals are in a slight V shape perpendicular to the camera and approximately 5 inches long. The short side is about 3 inches long and a deep blue and look flat in the photo

Colorless (white-grey-black) minerals were quickly kicked out, unfortunately. Maybe next time, there can be a max color level for participation? Tenebrescent #tugtupite can participate again and take a glorious win after exposure to UV ;-)

I have been helping in the rebuild effort for the Palisades fire, so I have not been as engaged in this year's MinCup as I otherwise would have been.

I campaigned hard for tugtupite this time around because the optical properties are amazing, but sad as I am to see that we lost, kyanite is one of my other favorites so it's not such a bad loss. 1. We’re asking for feedback on how many times a mineral can compete without winning before it retires.

2. Kyanite ran since 2017. If it didn’t win, it wasn’t probably coming back next year. Under the wire!
