We are now paying debts incurred by bsky-team's very conciliatory approach to ill-informed anxiety last winter about the HuggingFace dataset. (Anxieties that seemed then, as now, to be at least partly an excuse for dogpiling people.) Glad to see conciliation has some limits. Better late than never.

Absolutely nothing about this site’s architecture stops AI companies from scraping and training on it right now. The company everyone is freaking out about has clear license terms that say they aren’t doing that, but anything you post here is absolutely being used by someone for training

I think @tedunderwood.com nailed it when he was saying that genai discourse is just re-litigating the same IP/copyright conflict the internet already rendered largely obsolete.
eleanor.lockhart.contact
within an hour I will have multiple replies that hold me somehow morally responsible for the state of affairs I’m describing, implies that this state of affairs started with gen AI (it did not), suggests that copyright can solve it (it can’t), and/or just takes pride in not understanding things

48 hours later it is even even worse for a completely different reason than the original tweet.

somehow the AI discourse on Bluesky is now even worse than the old systemic harassment of people who are nonnegative on it

OpenAI also released a prompting guide for Sora 2, and the optimal input format is apparently Markdown/YAML.

This is harder to test in the Sora app since there is a user text input limit. cookbook.openai.com/examples/sor...

It still means that OpenAI is losing a catastrophic amount of money with each Sora generation in the app, just maybe less catastrophic?
minimaxir.bsky.social
OpenAI just released the API prices for Sora 2, and they are lower than expected: the SKU that powers the Sora app (the $0.30/s for 720p video) is cheaper than Veo 3's 720p ($0.40/s).

For death threats in particular, social media platforms take the Occam's Razor approach.

Ironic subtext doesn't work when the platform would be legally liable if there is no action taken.

"Normie Day"
emollick.bsky.social
You will know the big AI labs get the actual source of most transformative AI use when they stop making “Dev Day” the main way they speak with & release products for users and start having “Non-technical Manager Day” as well (admittedly not a catchy name, but you get the idea)

I believe the exact words are in the system prompt, it's just that Nano Banana is really, really bad at text rendering even in non-adversarial cases.

yes, and I have been doing this exact technique for years while people called me a sociopath

my sociopathy has been vindicated

The feed algo appears to be flawed and is just recirculating the videos that went viral before the increase in restrictions.

I increasingly think the subreddit model is the best conceptual way to structure a social media platform, even if actually existing Reddit I’m pretty meh about. You gotta let people enforce their own community norms, but those norms have to be opt-in
