A book that affected me most. Omar al Akkad's One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This. It absolutely spoke to me & asked me reflect on things - feeling betrayed by the promises & failures of democracy & human rights.

Basically the same deal when you FOIA USASOC. I've never gotten a single document out of the CIA, just rejection letters. If you don't have a lawyer filing a lawsuit, FOIA is almost useless.

A book series I love & read in the early 90s. The Stainless Steel Rat by Harry Harrison. I inquired about film rights to Harry in the late 90s who sent a super cool letter back. Rights are with Tulip Pictures. Permanently I think.

🟢 Hamas’ Khaled Meshaal on Resistance and Weapons Placing Palestinian resistance within a broader anti-colonial tradition, senior Hamas official Khaled Meshaal said resistance under occupation is “natural.” He recalled a meeting with former U.S. President Jimmy Carter in which Carter acknowledged that “we fought the British too.” Meshaal said Palestinians are no different from peoples who resisted colonial rule, including Americans, Europeans, and liberation movements worldwide. The head of Hamas outside Palestine, Meshaal told Drop Site that Hamas rejects forced disarmament but offers what he called “a realistic approach” to security “that includes guarantees.” “We do not want to clash with anyone,” he said, “but we will not accept being forcibly disarmed.” Meshaal said Hamas proposes preserving its weapons without using, displaying, or parading them, “with full seriousness,” pointing to Hamas’s “record of commitment” in past agreements. Hamas also accepts international forces “on the borders as separation forces,” but not inside Gaza “to clash with Palestinians and disarm them,” he added. Hamas also proposed a long-term hudna. “All the periods of calm over the past twenty years—Hamas adhered to them,” Meshaal said, adding that “it was Israel that violated them.” The core problem, he said, is Israel itself: “By its nature it is treacherous… and it is the side that possesses lethal weaponry.”

I read David Baldacci's Absolute Power for the first time after meeting him at Bouchercon in San Diego in 2023. I'd seen the film which aI thought was okay (though cheap looking) but the book is excellent. I can see why it sold for tons of money to Hollywood.
