My husband has taught human reproduction and development to the Cambridge medics for over three decades. When people start banging on about "only two biological sexes" he starts with "which sex: genetic, hormonal, or gonadal"?

Biological sex is not binary. www.scientificamerican.com/article/sex-...
Sex Redefined: The Idea of 2 Sexes Is Overly Simplistic
Biologists now think there is a larger spectrum than just binary female and male

Sherlock Hound is a gem. Hayao Miyazaki built an idea from an Italian studio into a brilliant adventure series.

It was a turning point in his career, and his last TV show. Behind it were clashing visions, young talent and lots of money, as we explore:

We have been busy today in room in the Hall that you won’t have seen - the office.

Well that sounds boring you say…

…not when it looks like this!

This is the 1601 extension to the Hall and is a timber framed mini masterpiece. Even the vacuum cleaner is wowed by it. 👀

PERSON OF THE DAY. 13 January 1961. Suggs (Graham McPherson), lead singer of Madness, was born in Hastings. Madness had 28 Top 40 UK singles and one No 1, House of Fun. Suggs got his nickname by randomly sticking a pin in an encyclopaedia of jazz musicians and hitting on Peter Suggs.

For centuries, a “gossip” was a woman who attended another woman's delivery. The word was a corruption of “god-sib” or “god-sibling,” meaning “sister in the Lord.” The gossips offered support to mother & midwife. Only later did it become derogatory.

I see that the DHS effort to intimidate people in Minnesota is proceeding - those fellows wearing camo look properly intimidated!

*touches ear* oh, I am being told those are the ICE goons supposed to do the intimidating.

Whelp.

'Escalate,' as in "tensions escalate," comes from the word 'escalator.'

It first appeared in print in 1944.

'Escalator' originated as a trademarked term for the Otis Elevator Company's moving staircase and was demonstrated at the Paris Exposition in 1900.
