Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview with Netflix in March 2025 that she understood would only be released after her death.

7pm. I have not spoken to a single other human being today. I’m not sure if I should be proud or sad

Having recently discovered that we made it a legal requirement to chip cats last year but if someone doesn’t basically nothing happens, I’ve become evangelical on this.

If you’re not enforcing a rule, you’re just inconveniencing the compliant.

I would suggest that no such laws should be passed unless there is a credible budgeted plan for enforcement and an explanation of what will go unenforced instead.

#OtD 4 Oct 1936 the Battle of Cable St took place when Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists tried to march through East London. They were met by over 100k local workers who fought the blackshirts and the police protecting them, stopping the march workingclasshistory.com/2020/02/17/e...

Whole class feedback. Took in sample of 8 books - deliberately selected below target students and those who wanted feedback. Share key learning from the sample with rest of class for whole class feedback. Took just 30 mins but great way of checking understanding and useful whole class feedback

Remember that any time you feel your school is a bit bonkers, watch Waterloo Road and you’ll feel loads better 😂😂

#OtD 27 Sep 1936 1000 uniformed fascist Blackshirts led by Oswald Mosley in Leeds, UK, were confronted by 30,000 anti-fascist locals who attacked them, pelted them with stones, hitting Mosley, and drowned out speeches by singing The Red Flag stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/9965...

Following my talk at @ttrhistory.bsky.social on Saturday, I wanted to share our dept approach to making good history booklets. Hopefully it will be useful. Feel free to message me if you would like to know any more. #ttrhums

Firstly, why booklets?

Thank you! I was worried that I was talking nonsense 😂

Oh also I got through all this in 8 minutes 😂😂😂 so thought it was probably sensible to type it out haha

11. Caveat is… I’ve just moved school so… all of this could be nonsense now 😂 but my new year 10s really like the punch cards and nearly all handed their HW in this week so 🤷🏼‍♀️ 🤞🏼

10. And finally… revision sessions?? I don’t know her. Targeted, specific, time limited interventions. Curricular intervention. Tutor time. Not an ongoing ramble through content again. This HT I will be running 4 sessions on ‘how to revise history’ for KS4 students and that will pretty much be it.

9. Exam practice. Do it in lesson time. Do small parts at a time. Model, annotate and discuss. Plan many questions. Try the ‘1 minute paper’ if they struggle to get started.
A PowerPoint slide detailing examples of exam practice mentioned in the post

8. Absolute FAVOURITE strategy from last year. Punch cards. Students get a hole punched for each homework submitted. Decide collectively on prizes for 3, 5 and 10 holes. We went for points, sweets, then cake 😂 🍰
11 examples of punch cards that have been completed with 10 holes. Some are decorated by the students

7. Predictable and accessible. Not overwhelming. Creates the likelihood of a high success rate = chances to praise and celebrate. Have lots of spares and remind them often in lessons and corridors!

6. Home learning. Trialled based on another school’s approach with maths HW. Always one sheet of paper. Always the same day. Always low stakes. Always knowledge based. Never an exam question.
Examples of home learning principles outlined in the post

5. Model how to make a revision resource. Use any time left at the end of the lesson (rare I know) to make a revision card together. Show them how to use them. Practice. Walk them through how to make a mind map using the revision guide.
