When you elect conservatives, you elect an assault on public education and a transfer of public money to the wealthy, in this instance private schools.

"The total private school grant was increased by 10.3 per cent in the 2025 budget. The hike was just 4.5 per cent for public schools, well short of inflation plus population growth. Per-student spending on private schools is expected to grow to $544 million by 2027-28."

Elections Alberta has approved a citizen-initiated petition application to gather signatures in support of the proposal to end public funding to independent/private schools.

Calgary teacher Alicia Taylor says she brought it forward because it could help improve funding for public schools. #AbEd

If high school chemistry teacher Alicia Taylor gets her wish, Albertans will vote in a referendum on whether to end public funding for independent schools.

I think, given the state of the policies when Carney came along, it's not hard to understand why he killed the carbon tax and paused the EV mandate.

I think there are also experts who would say you don't need the O&G emissions cap...

Today, teachers in Edmonton (and across Alberta) rallied for public education.

Tomorrow, we go on strike. The UCP said they have no idea what teachers want. If that's still true, I'd recommend that they read our initial proposal (again).

A picture taken 2025/Oct/05 of the rally at the Alberta legislature in support of public education. It's estimated that tens of thousands came together in support of lower class sizes, necessary classroom supports, reasonable teacher workloads, and fair compensation. A picture of the sign I made (and wore) for the rally on 2025/Oct/05 at the Alberta legislature. It reads "Treat subs like we're essential"

One way out of this might come wrapped in Reaganite branding. Somebody runs on "America Is Open for Business." They'll promise to end tariffs by fiat, reopen global trade, launch a ludicrously expensive marketing campaign to convince tourists they won't be kidnapped. 20% chance it's a Republican.

Welcome back for another season of Alberta Unbound. We kick off with a humdinger - an interview with Thomas Lukaszuk about his anti-separatism petition. A mad idea that plays right into the separatist’s hands? Or does it call the premier’s bluff? You’ll want to listen. #AlbertaUnbound #ableg #abpoli

@charlesrusnell.bsky.social spoke to my class yesterday—great session!
I asked him @ Al Beeber running campaign ads while still writing for the #Lethbridge Herald.👇
“You can’t be a politician AND a journalist,” and he said a leave of absence should have been mandatory.

Beeber's ad at the bottom of the page says he is a voice that can be trusted - did he pay for the ad or did his employer give him the space for free or at a cut rate? This is the obvious sort of conflict of interest questions that arise.
