Also, I'm not sure the phrase "ancestry mixing" as used in some of their papers is all that constructive of a term. It's reminiscent of the term "race mixing." I think it would be more constructive to deconstruct the idea of discrete races, rather than say "races are real, but people mix"

It's a cool result, but it's really disappointing that the researchers (based in the UK) didn't include anyone from Egypt in the paper. There are tons of archaeologists and geneticists in Egypt; there is no excuse for this type of helicopter science

Is it helicopter science? Yep! Would love to see more (and in this case, any) representation of researchers in the study country on the author list

I saw someone call it the "vibes species concept" and that sounds about right...

Interesting! How did they involve the descendant community in their work? If not, maybe it's not such a great Juneteenth post

More helicopter science!

amazingly fucked up that the NYT is uncritically publishing the claim, “Race has some biological reality.”

that is, definitionally, racism. textbook.

It feels like you are "punching down" on an article by a small lab, but praising something more problematic from a larger group

Surprised to see a critical take of this article, when you strongly endorsed a paper about Tunisia a few weeks back, that had no authors form Tunisia (or anywhere in Africa) and one of the authors has already published a rebutting, saying he felt mis-led www.vicino-oriente-journal.it/index.php/vi...
