Isn’t f11 the setting where DofF kicks in? As a f64 devotee for landscapes & wide open for “classic” portraiture using the scale is just an extra?

In the past I have given SLR lenses a hard time for their useless DOF scales...
And unfortunately that must continue. The first-gen F-mount 105mm f2.5 has a much improved distance scale, but, I see it doesn't even -try- to indicate apertures wider than -f8-
