This is interesting.

The EU’s #CBAM has become a key point of contention in #UNFCCC talks (see bsky.app/profile/mjfe...).

Brazil is now essentially proposing a bad bank to offload this discussion, so that it won’t hamper #COP30.

Novel use of ye olde yet-another-forum.

EU environment ministers failed to agree on emissions targets for 2035 & 2040, deferring the decision to leaders at a European Council meeting in October. The bloc will now head to the UNGA without new pledges.

🌍 New piece: despite political blowback, thermodynamic and geopolitical forces continue to drive the energy transition.

My latest in @noemamag explores how we need to update global climate governance for this new era:

Global Environmental Politics is ready for your classes.

I read this as an undergrad and was hooked.

As always, GEP offers a straightforward framework to explore treaty politics, with detailed case studies and a real sense of what's at stake.

Specifically, dedicated climate desk officers in strategically chosen embassies, a regular coordination round between ministries, and the label #Klimaaußenpolitik, surprisingly, at least to some extent. Unless this is just the press office mistaking it for a technical term. (2/2)

There is, undoubtedly, much to say about the ICJ’s landmark advisory opinion on Obligations of States in respect of Climate Change. In this post, Julian and I begin by unpacking the Court’s treatment of the sources of international law governing climate change and how those sources interact.
