Thread for quotes from _Enemy Coast Ahead_ by G. Gibson, 1946.

A surprisingly well-told ww2 memoir. There is speculation that part was ghosted by F/Lt Roald Dahl (yes, that R. Dahl), but only a fraction. Gibson had talent, but his luck ran out, and he didn't live to be, say, a John Masters.
Trump, like Idi Amin Dada, may retire to Saudi Arabia. @hcrichardson.bsky.social

Add a slide-sorter-like function to the Safari Tab Overview.
I want to reorder tabs to the Command-1 .. -9 shortcut area.

#anti-creeping-featurism
Yes, I could just drag-and-drop the tabs in the control-bar, but that does not scale well.

like? repost?

NEW: Footage of a US citizen in Chicago being rammed then dragged from her car on her way to work.

Abducted, with no warrant, her family couldn’t find her for hours.

She was later released with NO CHARGE.

A DHS statement said she “violently resisted arrest, injuring two officers”.

You decide…

Rumors of Trump Mausoleum plans:
• replace JFK gravesite (reinterment in Suckers' & Losers' section)
• Melania to extinguish eternal flame lit by Jackie
• 47 story tower (taller than the Washington monument) rising from an eternally fetid swamp (18 holes)
• finest Italian marble paid for by Italy

The Mount Vernon News was family owned from 1939 until it was sold in 2020 to a “pink slime” media company with ties to conservative billionaires. Then it began publishing one-sided articles that make dubious claims about solar power.

Fossil Fuel Interests Are Working to Kill Solar in One Ohio County. The Hometown Newspaper Is Helping.
A retired gas industry executive, a shadowy “grassroots” group and a controversial media company are spreading misinformation while turning residents against a proposed solar farm — and each other.

UPDATE: Trump used to say: "I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and wouldn't lose any voters, ok?"
NOW he thinks:
"I could stand in the middle of a MAGA rally and shoot somebody and would lose only the dead guy's vote--cattle ranchers, soybean farmers, distillers, anybody."

Jack Bowser, _Forgotten Armour: Tank warfare in Burma_

I liked it so much I'll buy his next book, _Thunder Run: Meiktila 1945_

"Forgotten Armour" by focussing on tanks adds to the more familiar histories of infantry's role and sacrifices.

Your regular reminder that almost everything Trump is getting away with is not because of presidential strength, but because of congressional weakness and judicial deference.

The constitutional tools are already there to fix this, but those who can fix it are refusing to do so.

Just ordered Bowsher's "Forgotten Armour: Tank warfare in Burma" in paperback. @lordhardthrasher.bsky.social recommends it highly, and I saw this review: "If I weren't such a misanthropic brit-hater, I'd take it all back, plus I'm dead, so whatever. (signed) 'Vinegar Joe'"
