The National Party of Australia dumped its Net Zero policy as Australia is moving too fast, & faster than its peers in the OECD.

Well, fossil CO2 emissions in the last 10 years have gone down
* -0.5% per year in Australia
* -1.4% per year in the OECD

Australia is somewhat of a laggard...

"Over the period 2021–2024, glaciers in both regions experienced a doubling of melt rates compared to the previous decade. Glaciers lost 12% (WCAN-US) and 13% (Switzerland) of their total 2020 volume over this four-year period"

🤯
Two-fold increase in glacier mass loss between 2010-2020 and 2021-2024! 🔥📈

CAN+Swiss glaciers lost 12-13% of their 2020 volume during these 4 years! 😱

Nothing can compare with early 2020s ice loss rates

There are few places more breathtaking than Ningaloo.

But the major parties keep approving projects that are killing it.

We have the technology to transition.
What we lack is leaders with the courage to act.

The film is an accessible presentation of the ideas in @wimcarton.bsky.social & Andreas Malms' recent book.

Anyone else get a $200bn gift from the govt yesterday??

No??!!

Cripes, you must not be a poor struggling barely getting by hugely profitable gas company
Today @MurrayWatt has given Woodside a $200bn gift

The North West Shelf extension will get $200bn+ of GAS FOR FREE. No royalties!

But what about PRRT? Lol No. Treasury in 2023 noted the NWS will never pay it

Terrible for the climate, fatal for Murujuga, & braindead economics

This is an incredible graph from @grogsgamut.bsky.social that shows how cooked our tax system is.

The Federal Govt gives over $33 bn in tax concessions to the richest 10% through CGTD + super.

That's more than 2x the total spend on all govt schools.
It's 2x the cost of putting dental in Medicare.

If Labor approves the 50 year extension of the North West Shelf gas export plant, brace yourselves for the spin about how we need it because of a 'shortage' of gas.

WA is awash with gas. 90% of it is exported.

Approving the NWS extension will be a boon for big gas & a bust for West Australians.

The final act of the last parliament was to gut Australia’s environment laws.
The first act from the new government is to trash climate credibility, with Woodside’s huge pollution bomb.

The Enviro minister has failed at the first hurdle. Trashing the environment, not protecting it.
