That’s gorgeous! I’m in western Montana, USA, and colors were very clear with the naked eye.

I have been told that the Salish name for the Bitterroots means “Red Mountains”. True or not, it’s an apt name.

I saw hundreds of them yesterday near Kootenai Creek! It seems it’s an irruptive year for this species.

Saw hundreds of freshly emerged California Tortoiseshell butterflies today at a friend’s place. It’s been an irruptive year for them!

A wolf in sheep’s clothing. Or rather, a robber fly (Laphria sp.) that looks like a bumble bee.

Omg you guys, I spent a few days in the Missouri River Breaks (amazing, highly recommend) and we found a SCORPION!!! I’ve never even heard of them here in MT! #MTSky #MontSky

Last week I was in a remote part of northern Montana and saw the most glorious intact shortgrass prairie. Blooming with carpets of prairie smoke and pussytoes, wildflowers everywhere, shimmering with butterflies. I kinda lost my shit a little - is this what the world looked like when it was new??

The Princess Bride is one of our family’s favorite movies.
It’s also a lovely, family-friendly, resistance movie. If you haven’t seen it, you should!

Theoretically we could look up all the parts we’d need to maintain this rig. When military trucks were converted for civilian use, the canvas cab tops were replaced with fiberglass and the truck was painted. Ours is orange. Maybe it was yellow before that? Original color is olive drab, of course.

Check out the gas tank fill. It has this sleeve in it that you can pull out to make it easier to fill with a carboy.

Here’s the front. Kid is requiring the headlights. Check out the marker lights and hooded blackout lights on the front. This is a retired military truck, btw.

My kid is fixing up our 1954 Dodge PowerWagon M37. My husband bought it for $600 and we’ve had it for nearly 30 years. It has been a good utility rig at our place in the mountains. I thought I’d share some photos of this cool old truck.

The tree is up! I love decorating it with my children, though I often get a little emotional. Each ornament was a gift or was handmade. It’s like a record of our family’s life together, and of all the past Christmases. Anyway, hold your loved ones close and enjoy the time together! 🎄❤️🎄

One of my kids once called this area of town, “Ancient Missoula” and I will always think of it that way.
