Also hard to know if houses are publishing so many WWII books because they know the market exists, or that the publishing of so many WWII books creates the market.

So as the olds age out, so does interest in the older wars?

This is a great question. I have no idea what Millenial and Gen Z dudes read.

I would really love someone to crunch the numbers on history nonfiction readers like they have done on fiction readers.

My assumption is that it's mostly older white dudes - and for them, World War II is evergreen.

ACTUALLY, Blueskis, you don't even have to be in the Boston area!

This is a hybrid event, so you can register to listen and post questions on Zoom! Huzzah!

Boston-area Blueskis with an interest in the Revolutionary Era and/or the environmental history, and/or the Hudson Valley!

Come join us for this session on October 9. Blake's work is great, and we'll be talking about how to approach the study of warfare and nature.

Whatever you do, please don’t stop reading.

Read for joy. Read for education. Read for resistance. Read banned books. Read books by marginalized authors. Read about experiences that differ from your own.

Just. Keep. Reading.

I know you're pretty much all experiencing this too, but I was working through a check list of stuff I need to promote (in this Banned Books Week of 2025) & just thrown for a minute at the dissonance of needing to keep the gears moving during this whole series of crises we're living through..

The benefits of having a college roommate who is a kickass crossword constructor!
A crossword in black and white squares, with one answer - "Sacajawea" highlighted, along with its clue: "Indigenous explorer featured in historian Megan Kate Nelson's "The Westerners""

That the Administration and their MAGA cronies in Congress have shut down the government but insist on keeping national parks open with very few staff or amenities is just one more step in destroying our public lands.

Love my mayor!

And love that I was able to vote for her in my first election as a Boston resident.

Don't sleep on Michelle Wu, one of this country's most quietly effective climate leaders, cruising to a second term in Boston. It's telling that business interests tried and failed to stop her and are pouting about it now

Wild that a drunk white dude gets to give an important speech on the importance of being violent and mediocre just because people confuse seeing one minority on the street with the apocalypse

Every single DC journalist should be spending this afternoon/evening finding Speaker Johnson & John Thune & asking them why the impeachment/removal has not happened yet, & continuing to hammer them with the same question over & over & over & over again & not accepting the boilerplate non-answers.

The president just gathered the highest ranking officers in the military to tell them that he may order them to kill American citizens -- and that they better follow his orders. All in response to a series of crises that have no basis in reality.

I don't know how to yell any louder.
